How about demis?

(no worries if this is not a known thing though)

My god.

My god.

We've seen this before, there have been a few hints that mortals could one day rival an Elder, plus the idea of the old Vernal Gods.

I really enjoyed this one, wish there had been mention of other races besides the ones we know, but aside from that, that was really interesting and very, very sad at the end.

Yes. It's called Ascension - be it Vernal God or Ascended God. An individual mortal could never face a God - who could, in reality, probably wipe out entire armies single-handedly.

Actually, still two left. happy.gif

Add the word 'book' in there, since apparently one can't be poetic in this thread without six people chiming in because you're wrong on the internet.

(It's entirely possible Dracnoris has already splintered, though-- we just don't know at this point.)
Daraius2011-01-21 12:40:13
So conception, gestation, and birth for Lusternian mortal races is not as magical as we might have hoped.
Kiradawea2011-01-21 12:55:17
What do you mean? Shards are more powerful than soulless. That's epic!!
Llesvelt2011-01-21 12:58:01
More powerful? That's debatable.

I mean, they just can't be destroyed permanently by soulless unless they destroy all of them.

I guess that'd be like, I dunno, a bunch of rabbits. Not really powerful, just be sure to get them all in one swoop.

As this was the first generation, they retained some memory of
Mugowumpois. One tall member of this new race walked towards me,
hesitant and unsure.

"I have a message from her," the newly formed shard said softly. "From
me. Who I was."

The shard of Mugowumpois whispered the message in my ear. Then, she
stepped back and nodded. I took her to the Portal of Fate, wherein she
stepped through. Sometime later, she emerged from the portal, looking
serene though confused as mortals often did when first returning.

"Do as she asked," said Trillillial softly to me.

I wub.gif Mugowumpois. Does anyone else thing that the female mugwump had her soul tracked and ultimately got reincarnated into the mugwump that became Vestera?!
Shiri2011-01-21 13:06:25
I'm guessing that was language barrier issues, since it didn't look like there was any joke in English...
Llesvelt2011-01-21 13:15:21
I honestly see no joke.
Unknown2011-01-21 13:17:47
Holy crap, another book already. whatthe.gif

Wasn't expecting to see this this morning.

I will be sad when the Elder Wars series is finished. Nothing more to look forward to. (Or are there...?)
Lendren2011-01-21 14:55:02
So the kephera queens were right all along about reincarnation. This makes my play Separate Lives seem a lot more prophetic than intended.

Yeah, I didn't expect it so soon either after December's release and with all the changes going on, and also because in most cases a new story ties into to a previous or ongoing event. (Or is it forshadowing ninja.gif) Or maybe this one doesn't have any of that and it was just the right time to release it.

I see the lack of gods sharded being listed as a result of the number--the book says that there were dozens of others, not just the ones that remained safe in the basin of life, so I doubt the book would list everyone since dozens were doing it.

One flaw in the explanation I see is the existence of the Daggers of Reincarnation. This allows you to actually change your race! So what happens to the soul. If you reincarnate from Mugwump to Tae'Dae, what happens to the soul involved. (Heck, maybe this will get people to pause more before changing their race...or not...)
