He who forsees calamity must experience it not once but twice.

Have you learned nothing boy! Prescience is a trap!

Flames see us 5-0 at the end of the first, and we net 6 unanswered goals for the biggest comeback in franchise history!!

Since there's still no DSL or cable modems coming to my town for at least another year or two, been pricing fractional T1s. Had been going ahead with a $389/month (!) one that was a quarter of a T1 (256Kbps), but just before the whole thing went official, we found Fairpoint had just put in a new program where they'd sell a full T1 (1.5Mbps) for $209/month. It might take a month or three to get the wires to us, and it's going to cost a ton compared to DSL, but I'll finally have a real connection at home. (Who knows, I might even get back into Lusternia and finally become the combat-monster that my coding abilities may allow me to become. Won't that be a surprise.)

Sounds like you'll have better than a monster connection.... You could probably figure out a way to timeshare that T1 to all your neighbors to defray the cost!

Actually a T1's not really faster than DSL or cable modems anymore. It's a bit slower on the download side than an average cable modem. Much faster on the upload side, but that's not very important. What you're paying for is the business-class reliability, not the speed.

As for sharing with my neighbors, they're too far away with no line of sight that's not screened by hundreds of yards of trees. It would cost a fortune to connect us. I used to manage a wiki where we were supposed to work together on it, but they were totally nonplussed by the costs and backed out. They thought I was going to be able to whip up some kind of magic as-fast-as-DSL-for-less solution out of an old soup can or something. Once they got a dose of reality they decided dialup was fine. With one exception, my neighbors are not very tech-savvy.

I'm in the musical "Oliver", raising money for the local hospital. It's going well, and we're generally having a lot of fun, even though the people who organized it like to shout a lot at the cast...
Downside is, each show starts at 8pm, and ends at 11pm each night. And we're dancing and singing constantly, so I'll be exhausted by Saturday!

Try being one of the crew when the lights fail and there's a ten foot rip in the curtain tongue.gif You actors/actresses get totally spoiled (I say this in the most loving way a ceiling ninja can).

Hey, if you keep track of a game like that, who would want to share an island with you?
