The only time I've gotten one, my number didn't get called in so I didn't have to do it. Yaaaay!

I've only gotten a jury summons once, but it was for a Chicago trial when I was still in school in Ohio, so I couldn't go .

And I'm another one of those people who wants to do it and encourages others to, because if all the rational people keep trying to get out of jury duty, eventually only the irrational will be on juries, and then we are all screwed.

I was totally prepared to do my duty, but I didn't get called in either. So yaaaay, but also boooo.

I've only ever known one person who had to do jury duty (a teacher of mine in high school), and it was for a murder trial. We don't have juries for civil cases in Australia, though, only criminal trials, so there's a lot less jury duty floating about in general.

Cleaning out the old computer room to put new flooring in, I came across an ancient PC game called Abe's Oddysee. It is insanely difficult and frustrating. I vaguely recall never making it more than a tenth of the way through when I played it as a kid, and I'm not doing much better now.

Those games are awesome though. The FPS incarnation was pretty good too.

It's funny that you mention that because my class had a speaker come in today for my school's Women's Day event and she turned out to be a lawyer. At one point during her presentation, she mentioned that some judges -make- people sit through a whole entire case, as a spectator, if he or she thinks a potential jury member is trying to avoid jury duty.

How?

She could threaten to hold them in contempt if they didn't show.

I'm really super slow with cooking and baking, but I still like doing it. It took me an hour to get this cake in the oven. But...yessss, cake.

The small city I currently live in has two high schools, MV and JMH. We have a huge rivalry, naturally. The funny part? Their mascot is a cat. Ours used to be a dog, but we traded it in for... a salmon with punching gloves? -tic-

They recently discovered that we do video announcements, and are now trying to do the same, thus spurring a huge competition between which school can be more insulting, more hilarious, and better than the other.

Oh high school. Sometimes, you amuse me so.

Yes I was. And, it's my cake. Mine.

Also the bottom of it got kind of burnt because the topping wouldn't cook all the way through so I had to leave it in the oven for too long. >< But it's still pretty alright.

Couldn't you have taken it out, then just finished the topping with a blow dryer?
