I don't know, and it doesn't really matter. I was only trying to help Caffrey in case of a mistake... doesn't really matter otherwise. Maybe it got changed somewhere along the way, or something. Maybe it's a bug, it's supposed to go away, and it kept not going away at the right time. Maybe it gets opened early into the process and stays open indefinitely. I just know I was up there once an hour every day for months, including times when Globglob hadn't been up in weeks, and every time I needed a getaway spot, it was there, without fail. We'll probably never know. But if Caffrey's map isn't wrong it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference. (Though you guys are so definite, it makes me wonder if we're talking about a different room or something...)
You're talking to some major quest mongers.. -every- detail is critical

All I can say is that that room is never, ever, ever there when I go there if Globglob is not up (I'm talking about the one due north of Norchatine, one north of the path around her, which is marked on his map as being Globglob's room). In fact, I didn't even know that room existed until I first saw it on his map a while back. I kept trying to get into it, couldn't, and had to do the quest just to map it. Heh.
I don't know how soon after he dies it goes down (if instant or a bit longer), and it's also quite possible it was bugged for a time. Who knows.

I could remove the litte red mark and leave the word floating there, ambiguously. Would that help?

All of the 4 new planes have aether docks. Also FYI, some of Mt Dio's IN secret room exits rotate!
Less useless chatter, more helping each other find new areas to explore!
Caffrey2009-12-30 23:43:23
psh im still working on Hallifax, so many up-down exits is taking me bloody ages... but should be done in a bit. Then I will do fire and vortex.
Caffrey2009-12-31 01:27:55
bleh, that took ages.

Thank you! This is awesome.

I think the Hallifax map needs to be done in CAD software.
Unknown2009-12-31 12:14:13
Good work on the map, but wow... I can't visualize what Hallifax is supposed to look like at all. Though really I had that problem with Celest and to a lesser degree Magnagora too, only place I had a good mental image of was Glom.

Hallifax is all spires / towers stacked on top of each other. Mapping it is extremely easy...
... if you don't try to make it all 2d. Can just go up and down from one spire to the next, don't have to move any rooms around, they all automatically connect, etc.
Caffrey2009-12-31 12:43:39
Well, what I see is two convex bowls one atop the other. the lower bowl is "held in shape", inside, by the six arms of the Transdimentional Flux Core. The Matrix is actually directly above this core and then the second bow sits atop that. The second bowl holds a number of towers, like the small sausages in an all-day breakfast can.
Damn, now I made myself hungry.

Easy in terms of the layout, but time consuming... I wish Zmud would do up/down on the same level

Oh yeah, that would be lovely as an option.
Unknown2009-12-31 13:29:07
Mapping up/down on the same level is more of a pain than most people think, considering rooms like the ones in Limbo where you have all cardinal exits AND up/down. Deciding automatically where to put those rooms is a big problem. The mapper didn't do the in/out very nicely for me half the time, either.
I love my MudBot-style maps now, and I wouldn't go back to the pain of zMUD mapping again for anything.

That's why I have the second line in that bit you quoted
I didn't even try to make it 2d, I just let it do its elevation thing. It was happy to automatically connect everything for me when I went up and down. Took less time to map it than it took for Gaudiguch (it's amazing how fast it is when you don't have to move any rooms anywhere or manually make any connections. Or even check the MAP).
Doesn't work for easy display purposes like your realm map, I'm afraid, but... if you aren't making it 2d it's one of the easiest maps in the game. To me, at least.

Latest map.
Fire, Vortex, Morgfyre realm and Terentia realm.
Moff to a party to drink some more now. (Shush Liver, shush! You've had it easy all year.) Have a nice New Years everyone and see you in 2010...

Until Caffrey can get one, here's Czigny Wayfaire:
Edit: Note that the maze isn't mapped here, but I'm sure that'll be one of many ways Caffrey's map beats my makeshift one.
