How does re-arranging manse rooms work, exactly? Take for example this set up:
Where C is the portal exit that connects up to A. B connects down to A. A has both IN and OUT exits to a garden and a fountain in separate rooms. Is it simply a matter of shifting exits around to reconfigure into one level that's essentially a circle, or is rearranging basically returning rooms for gold and buying new rooms? Can you move the rooms with a fountain/garden? How about rooms with aethership bits? Can you move those?

Its exit shifting. You can make... interesting rooms.
Xiel2010-03-20 23:11:09
Gonna need to dumb that sentence down for me quiiite a bit.
Razenth2010-03-20 23:13:43
Sorry. Moving rooms is basically changing the exits of room so you have one room lead to another room and so on and so forth. Since its just rearranging exits, I believe it doesn't matter about the contents of the room. The only exception is the fulcrux room, which can't have a down exit (cause that's for a possible shop). Also, when rearranging, a room can't be completely cutoff. I think. You'll have to double check that one.
Ssaliss2010-03-20 23:20:57
Basically, make liberal use of MANSE CREATE EXIT and MANSE DESTROY EXIT .
EDIT: MANSE ROOM LIST will tell you which rooms you have.
EDIT: MANSE ROOM LIST

So...if I wanted to make it all one circle on one level, I just...do what exactly. Do I manse destroy exit e from the third level B room before doing manse create exit ne from the room east of C on the 1st level and that'll shift the room over?

That would turn it into this:

So if that's your intention, yes. Although you might have to MANSE CREATE EXIT before you MANSE DESTROY EXIT, since it would otherwise be cut off (not sure if this is a limitation or not, but just in case).
EDIT: Okay, that was ugly. Attempt number two...
EDIT 2: You definitely have to MANSE CREATE EXIT first, then MANSE DESTROY EXIT in this case. You cannot have isolated rooms.
Xiel2010-03-20 23:28:18
Oh, so you create an exit before you destroy? But then..where would that exit lead to before I destroy? Do I need to attach a specific number before I create the exit first?
Ssaliss2010-03-20 23:31:41
Stand in the room east of C, then MANSE CREATE EXIT NORTHEAST . This will make it look like this:
Then stand in either B or the one east and MANSE DESTROY EXIT.

Make a random exit, destroy the other one.
Destroy the random exit when you have everything else set up and know where you want the permanent exit to be.
Xiel2010-03-20 23:35:52
Hmm...let's see if I can get this to work properly...
Ssaliss2010-03-20 23:36:00
Oh, and by the way: You can create any exits you want, manses don't have to make any geographical sense whatsoever. You can have two rooms that share both an east/west exit and an up/down exit, if you want to.
Razenth2010-03-20 23:39:28
Yeah, that's what I meant by interesting rooms. You can recreate those mazes in quests, or make something like Elostian's room

The fulcrux room can have a down exit - Fang has one. I wonder what would happen if I bought a shop ....
Razenth2010-03-20 23:42:14
Untrapped error?
EDIT: I hear you can't do it anymore though. Is Fang really old?

From HELP MANSE:
QUOTE
Room Box
- Creates a new room and exit. MUST HAVE A MANSE ALREADY!
- Syntax: TURN BOX
- NOTE: Cannot make an exit DOWN from the fulcrux room (reserved for
shop artifact).

So must've been either a bug or a semi-recent change.
Esano2010-03-20 23:51:51
It was an exit made, not a new room. Nevertheless, bugged, and I'll look at rearranging Fang.
And to think, I had it all nice and intuitively laid out.

Noooooooooooooooo. Don't rearrange! MUST CREATE UNTRAPPED ERROR!

Why can't I set a puzzle point at the Ethereal archway to Earth, but I can at the Air archway to Ethereal? Is there a list of what can't be puzzled? Nexuses I know, what else?
