Most guilds only have one real way to fight, except maybe warriors.
I guess that's true.
Noola2010-07-09 20:01:34
I've always wondered about that. Why do we have all those abilities, if you can only kill someone by using like three of them?
Unknown2010-07-09 20:02:17
Celestines have a few ways of landing a kill, but it depends on what your race is mostly.
As for monk, it's the same as with the other IRE muds: there, you're either setting up for MIND RADIANCE (if your race has fast eq) or BBT.
EDIT @ Noola: Because damage kills aren't viable for most classes, so you've got to try for an insta or be part of a zerg.

Try balancing a class that can kill in a dozen different ways and you'll have your answer.

I thought they were pretty solidly in the Inquisition -> Soulless camp. What else do they do?

Judgement in groups, Absolve ( <50% mana instakill) rarely but I've seen it happen.

Groups are pretty wildly different, though.

Well, I've never managed to kill anyone ever except by luck (happened to land the last blow on someone once), so I'm well aware I don't know what I'm talking about. It just always seemed strange that everyone's always, "Do this and this and this and then do your instant kill. Anything else is pointless." And I always wonder about the other abilities and why they're even there if they're so pointless.

True, but Lusternia's big on group combat.
Inqui/Soulless is most reliable for solo kills, granted. Absolve can be a
to pull off alone.

Trust me, there's only one way to fight as a warrior, too.
There are different tactics therein, but in general, no matter what you do (save for the occasional sacrifice in Necro, or Illumination in Paradigmatics), you're ultimately going for behead.

There's only one ideal kill method at a time, but over the course of time and envoy reports and the release of new guilds and bug fixes, some skills that were not used in those become central, and other skills move off center stage. It's like a big box of Legos: the ones you're not using today are still going to be useful someday.
Razenth2010-07-09 20:33:26
I'd like to see a Celestine pull off a damage kill on someone with average magic DMP, after seeing all the changes to the skills honestly.
Unknown2010-07-09 20:34:21
Maybe an AFK newbie without grace, Razenth. ![tongue.gif](style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif)
I kid, but when has Cosmicfire damage ever been that great for Celestines? At least Nihilists get Omen/Quickening.

Furien2010-07-09 20:36:11
You get quickening too, and it used to be viable with that vs. fire-weak races.
Probably not so much nowadays.

Inquisition + Fervor + Sensitivity + Radiance. Dunno how long you've been out Denust, but there have been significant changes to Sacraments and Celestialism.
Unknown2010-07-09 20:39:34
But if you land Inqui, why wouldn't you have Soulless ready?
I mean, that would be be a fine setup for Healer or Astrologer, but even Astros get MeteorStorm. That's a lot of set-up just to try a damage kill when it seems like something you'd only be forced to try as a Healer? But I'll admit that I haven't quite caught up with Celestine combat since I came back and I'm generally clueless anyway.![laugh.gif](style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif)

When did Magnagoran guilds switch to "Outguild Elfen on sight!" Didn't Elfen used to be tolerated but could just never gain rank in the city?

Maybe because you WANTED to try for a damage kill?

Throwing Inquisition out as a Meteor comes down, then putting up a few spheres and dropping another Meteor while they're still stunned would be EPIC. Timing would be a bastard, though.
Razenth2010-07-09 20:53:25
Awesome, though you'd be better off spamming radiance at that point.
