I don't mean to sound patronising with what I am about to say, it is kindly meant: it seems though that most of your current opinions are based on impressions: 'hallifax seems like' 'Celest would be' 'Magnagora is probably'. You will not actually know until you try these things for yourself and interact with the people involved. Again, an example from Hallifax (Which may get a bit old, but I live there and due to the affinity system, I really don't know anyone from other cities!) I would find it difficult to believe that the Hallifax librarian would ban books on account of having a hero from another city. In fact, if she does, let me know, she's in my order after all, I might need to step on her.

I wish to join your order please. I have poked your master shrine several times in an attempt to get your attention. May have to up my actions to catch your eye. suspicious.gif

Here's our initial design for hallifax monks:

Most of their skills will revolve around them having bookbinding as a trade skill.

Then you'll fix bookbinding to actually help people have a good enough source of income close to the majority of the other trades? Howlers also.
Ileein2010-07-15 16:06:12
To be fair, if you notice the KGB aspect of the city, clearly the KGB isn't doing its job.

And as to howlers: yesplz.

The second question being, do you think you would want to be made a guild protector to be able to do this?

Sure, as long as it was understood that was the only reason I was a protector. Seems the GC and GM could keep a list: Guardian Protectors and Regular Protectors. Guardian Protectors were only Protectors to run guardians and didn't get as many (if any) special privileges for doing so and aren't eligible for promotion to Security. Regular Protectors are eligible for promotion and can have whatever special privileges Cities/Communes and Guilds offer them.

And, really, who cares if it adds a bunch of names to Help Whateverguild's list of Protectors?

Two good ideas in one week? I need to slow down! I'll run out of my yearly allotment if I'm not careful! laugh.gif

But thanks. biggrin.gif It just seems to make sense to me.

While I don't write large books, or stuff, I do make lots of pretty designs for Hallifax, so there's at least one person in the Institute who thinks of themselves as an artist. I like to think I'm getting a Bachelor of Arts, instead of Science *hide*

I like shiny Hallifax. And yes, when can we steal Lady Isune? *hide*

Since the release of the Guardian guilds I have edited my signature to something you may find more appropriate! ohmy.gif

The second question being, do you think you would want to be made a guild protector to be able to do this?

I can only speak for myself here, obviously, but I definitely would. For largely the same reasons you outlined in a previous post, too, that Protectors are basically Security-in-training. I think these would be a -fantastic- way of overcoming my main obstacle in learning combat, like I've been trying for a while: acclimating myself to the speed and rapidly changing nature of combat.

Right now, every time I try, I basically go "omgomgsomuchhappeningwhatdoidowhatdoido." And when I finally figure out something I was told to react to happened - "Ok, this is happening, so I'll try this. What just happened? Did I do anything? Oh, I missed it and was way too late." Repeat.

And I was told once to try doing just one thing, like Web people over and over again, and that's it. Except people kind of don't seem to care when I do. Last time I tried, they were probably laughing at me, they certainly didn't care. They killed the rest of the group, and then just sat there talking to each other about how they just won, while I was still standing there. Didn't even take the time to register me as a threat and kill me. sad.gif

Anyway, I sincerely think the nexus guardians could help with this, for a lot of the reasons already stated. Chiefly, there is less you CAN do in them, and less that can affect you directly, so it's far, far less to be thinking about when you're trying to acclimate yourself to combat. The only reason I haven't so far, is that somebody who was apparently misinformed or something told me, when I asked as a novice, that they were used only for Nexus Battles... which don't happen anymore.

I think I'm going to go ask for Protector now. biggrin.gif

Why can't our patron be as involved as Elostian tends to be? sad.gif

Edit: For Nexus Guardians, I didn't even know they existed. Maybe they were made while I was away? Dunno.

I think they were made mid-September last year, although I could be off. They've never seen much (if any) use though.

Where's the Lusternia website page that actually lets you log in and isn't broken?

Revisit the login URL and it'll show you a screen with 'Hello, Characternamehere!' and then you'll be considered fully logged in. I usually have to do this for bardics, at least.

(And by revisit - I mean open it in a new tab or c/p the URL or similar, don't just click on the login button.)

I guess it's to do with the fact that you have to be a protector to become a secretary. Even without any special privs it kinda comes off like putting just anyone who shows an interest in teaching novices in an undersec position.

No, you need to be an undersecretary to become a Secretary. In hindsight I suspect you might mean 'security', but even then, nothing says you need to make a protector security.

QUOTE
Plus it does come off as a position of authority and I think, in the Hartstone at least, it lets you pull rank over most of the guild. If it wasn't a coded stepping stone to security it might be different, but it's not that difficult to see implications of handing the position out for this.

I've kind of always seen the protector role as the people who are security-in-training/waiting. These are the people that should either be practising their skill in combat, or have proven their abilities and are now marked for potential promotion to security. Either way they should be heading into combat wielding their own powers rather than well... novice abilities.

These are matters of player perception and how guilds decide to utilize their privileges. I know it sounds rather callous, but that's 'not our fault', and is something your guild should address.

QUOTE
If you keep the privilege restricted to guild protector/security but allow them a command(requiring the target to agree of course) to let a member of their org control the guardian. This would give some purpose and responsibility to the post while also allowing the people that the guardians were designed for access to them.

That's quite a lot of coding for a feature that's never used (and may not be even then). In a time when we're strapped in terms of coding resources, spending time changing something that probably still won't be used seems like a waste.

Re Xenthos, I didn't know they could DEFEND - pretty nifty, that. Granted, there's still nothing saying you can't use the protector position as pilots too.

Why can't female characters bow (or male ones curtsey)? I still stubbornly attempt to BOW every single time, even though I know it's just going to make me curtsey. And yes, I realize I can just emote it, but that's just not the same and you know it isnt. tongue.gif It just seems silly to force people to stick to the "proper" one for their gender.

I made one of my alts a custom bowing emote, and every time she does it, she gets looks from people like "What are you doing."

Breaks my heart.

I believe Achaea actually made it so males can curtsey and females can bow quite a while ago, i.e., removed the gender barrier.

No, the idea is to notice it just enough to scare you all into not having to see it anymore.

What type of weapon is best for hunting for a Blademaster?

And as a furrikin, which is better to invest in, Athletics to flex, or working on transcending Blademaster?
