On being a viscanti:

Bhutak says, "Somehow when I was being born I missed the part where I was asked whether I wanted the 'vessel to ancient evil' option."

look vathael

He is a one-eyed krokani demigod and is of an impressive height, dominating the space of approximately six feet and two inches. His form is lithe but ominous in stature, an aura of determination radiating from him as he bears himself with a carriage of confidence. Cold, slate eyes are set deeply beneath a distinguished brow and lined subtly at their corners with age, a scoring that hardly belies his iron-willed gaze....

Clearly anatomy is not your strong point, Vathael biggrin.gif.

Just because someone is picking up particles doesn't mean they aren't AFK. When a friend of mine played, he looped picking up particles and then went afk for an hour and managed to get just about all of them.

And then they bat their eyelashes and go "lookit me. I got all these particlez. Cityfavour me twice". sick.gif

That's one of the reasons I decided to take a vacation from leading weakenings. Of course, now it seems that nothing gets done with weakenings. Bleh. Stupid Celest.

And awesome Celestines. wub.gif

Geyra has been burned to death by a fierce volcanic eruption.

You tell Geyra, Adherent of the Maiden, "You alright?"

Geyra tells you, "I think something blew up."

Geyra tells you, "I suppose when she said to duck and cover she literally meant it."

For the particles everyone is so keen on talking about... It doesn't matter if a person is AFK or not, they still generate the same amount of particles from the construct as far as I know. What does it matter if someone is blabbing with their friends or whatnot while they are getting particles? There bodies are there, and they are helping out the city. For me it's just an annoying time away from things I'd rather be doing. I think the people who stay the longest should get the most gold because they have been inconvenienced the most. Also the aethership people should get a little extra money, (but not all of it) because again they are using more of their time. I was around for 15 minutes and collected 123 particles (more than anyone else in the room got at that time, because they all rely on various auto pickup techniques. It wasn't just me earning these particles, I was just the one picking them up.

That's actually most of the reason why people pick up their own: we pay a lot more to those who trade in spheres than particles, not simply to save me the hassle of having to nab an empath with a tranquilizer dart and chain him to my grid, but also to serve as an incentive to other people to go out and use ships. Trading in your own particles will get you on average ~20x as much, so we give you the chance to save your own particles in part to encourage that.

Anyway, we have lots of people who come in only partway or leave early, and relatively few if any people who try to steal particles from each other (apart from the acquisitio-without-palm situation), so paying out by particles works for us. So far.
Kiradawea2009-02-12 19:56:24
If you really need an Empath, just ask Kira.

What Celest does is that someone (I) gathers all the particles at the end of the weakening, before I write down everyone who participated and then I nab an empath and go out to trade the particles for spheres. Then I sell half, and divide the gold on everyone who participated. The gold is distributed evenly between crew and weakening participants, but if you participate in both you get paid twice.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to push through a suggestion where the weakening leader checks for participants four or six times, and then divide the gold not only based on participation, but on how long they were around. Alas, that suggestion is probably now gone within the enormous bureaucratic and poorly executed machine that Celest has been transformed into.
