Lusternia is set up quite well racially IMO (does that count as a rave?). In Aetolia and Imperian, and I suppose Achaea although they don't have statpacks, you more or less had one clearly superior race for balance classes, one for EQ classes, and maybe a couple of other good picks for tasks like tanking. In Lusternia, spec races, the strong ties between races and cities and communes, the diversity in class roles, and the importance of stats like dexterity and charisma, which either don't exist or are of marginal importance elsewhere in IRE, all contribute to a far greater array of racial niches, which has resulted in a greater spread.
Completely agree; I say much the same thing whenever the subject arises. Statpacks notwithstanding, Lusternia has the best racial system of all the IRE games, and racial RP is still alive, too. Definitely a rave!
It's not even just that, though: I personally feel there are a lot of interesting races in Lusternia, ones that make you sit up and say, "Oh hey, that's pretty cool." Personally, I particularly like faeling, kephera, illithoid, and lucidian. I also like aslaran, mugwump, and merian, though those are of a type that's significantly more common in medieval fantasy.

Racial RP has always been very important to me, no matter which of the IRE games I've played. I always have been reluctant to reincarnate, because my character's race is always a huge part of who they are. This is especially true in Lusternia. I think the racial specialization stuff is one of the most awesome parts of this game.

So, technically they -could- interbreed, just didn't, but now humans have spread the idea and it's seen more?
No, they couldn't interbreed period. Humans are the special bond that links the races together-- they can (and do) breed with anything.
Which is why when I see half-Aslaran half-Dracnari half-Faeling I shake my head and move on.

Well, it's been 270 years since the return of Estarra. Anyone can argue they have a sliver of human blood in their family which allows them to interbreed by now. In fact, I am not sure if the divide is really that big, after all, there are things that mention that hallifax (these days) is full of lucidian-trill couples, which should work well, or the city would actually die out.

So does that mean that even just a smidge of human blood somewhere back in the family history allows someone who is, say, for all intents and purposes a lucidian, to interbreed successfully?
Elostian2010-07-13 16:38:41
Well, just looking at your family tree, I'd say you know the answer to that.

I always operate under the assumption that 95% of a family tree is adoption. Whether they say so or not.

You're only teasing me this way so I'll hurry up and make that Celest alt, aren't you?

Maybe.
You don't even need to keep the alt for long! You can read city news during the newbie intro if you're that curious.

I don't tend to make throw-away alts. I even buy credits for my alts. I might stop playing them for a while, but I generally pick them back up after a while.
I'll figure out what sort of Celest alt I want to make sooner or later.
I'm kinda stuck between a dwarf paladin who drinks way too much or a dwarf cantor who thinks he can sing, but so can't - and drinks too much.
Course, now that I've put that, I'll prolly do neither cause I don't really like for people to know who my alts are and now folks will know if they see either of those two sorts.
Unknown2010-07-13 20:36:31
If you roll a Cantor, everyone is going to know it's you no matter what sort of character it is.
Jigan2010-07-13 21:15:01
I still got the magic touch.
Seriously, if you find Jigan annoying, ignore him. Trying to get him to shut up on the city aether will only make him find you more amusing to screw with. And the moment you RAGEQUIT the discussion and snub him, he'll have free reign to chat on the city aether again.
Just ignore him, it ends better that way. If you think he's an idiot, that's fine. But when you're dealing with someone who's form of worship to a God of Murder, Deception, and Greed is a cupcake, who talks back to gods, insults them directly, and so on, he doesn't have the capacity to fear mortals. About the only thing you can do is crucify him, and then that's it. Another one and you risk the avenger if you annoy him enough.
Just don't say a word, move along. You aren't going to stop him, you aren't going to scare him. It's an exercise in futility.
Why is this a rave? I love, seriously love, annoying people who like to look down their noses at other people.
Avenger only happens for repeated killing, naturally. But if I deem it to be beyond the realms of good taste and what the roleplay limits (1 kill is fine, 2 is okay, 3 is pushing it in this case) I'll be more than happy to sic it on you.

Zomg, sorcelglass scrolls show up on wares now in parenthesis. Pity probing doesn't show the full examined and that you can't read the scroll to see the full examined either, but it's a definite step forward. Squeal.
