As a power aide, I can type POWERLOG 0 0 LENDREN to see the current weave's powerlog showing only lines involving me. My proposal: let non-power-aides see the powerlog too, but only their own entries. In other words, no matter what syntax they use, ignore the fourth parameter and replace it with their name. That should be easy-peasy to implement and would make power management so much less awful.

I'd like to see that too, plus it'd stop people applying to be power aides just to see their own logs and not do any work

I agree. I want to see my own power logs.
Lendren2008-12-24 00:27:51
We power aides want you to see your own power logs too! So you can stop bugging us to tot them up for you.

YES.
Daganev2008-12-24 01:25:14
I like this idea being linked to a specific city rank. (for rp purposes)

You should bother Lendren anyway, it's a great hobby.

Bother me! Just not about that.

It's a nice thought, but I could see problems with the implementation of it. That fourth parameter is just a substring search, so if your name happened to be "Dair," for example, you'd see entries regarding Dairuchi. The logs are just flat files, not database queries, so better filtering is not quite as easy as it could be.

ing logic, you take that crap the hell out of here, you hear me?
Lendren2008-12-26 05:14:36
It would have a space on either side, no problem at all.
Fania2008-12-26 05:49:05
Most power aides would be out of a job then...wait that might not be a bad idea. Those numbers try to eat me sometimes. They try to eat me! I've had way to much caffeine and sugar today.

Or you can all stop being lazy and make a simple 5 trigger line system to track your in and output.
Even if you want to implent such a thing, for RP reasons the minister of power should have the ability to toggle it off then.

I had no idea that readlog/powerlog takes name parameters. What an incredibly useful thing to know, thanks! (Is this in a help file? Maybe this should be added to 'help logs' and 'help 10.6.2' or somesuch?)

This is a fabulous idea for a variety of reasons. I wholeheartedly agree.

I think you missed what the suggestion is. You can already parse the power log through IG mechanics to see the contributions of just one individual. The request is for non-aides to have that ability for themself only, as we can't read the logs at all and have to bug power aides to find out how much we've put in/out.
