Alright, as many of you probably do not know, we used to have a pretty active IRC channel. It used to be run by Branwyn, who has since quit Lusternia. She handed it off to Gwylifar, who also quit Lusternia but still maintained activity over the IRC channel. We had a lot of cute things going on, including being at the start of IRE Radio when it came out. Unfortunately, less and less people remembered to come to the channel on a regular basis, and it died out. A few months ago, Gwylifar declared the project dead, and has stopped coming to the IRC room.
Now, as the only person who still regularly visits #Lusternia , I'm getting lonely . If you want to get in and already know how to get on IRC, the server and channel information are already located in the topic description. If you don't know how to get on IRC, here's a few simple steps.
1) Download mIRC @ http://www.mirc.com/
2) Install mIRC
3) Open mIRC - although it says that your trial runs out in 30 days, ignore it. It actually continues running (mine has been going on for 2079 days as of today, go figure).
4) Input a screen name and e-mail address (you won't actually get any e-mails from IRC, it's just used as a hostmask).
5) Close out of that screen.
6) On the main chat screen, hit the following - /server irc.deathwyrm.net
7) Once you connect (you'll be able to tell because you'll get a ton of text on your screen), type /join #Lusternia
8) Chat away with me (and hopefully other people ;_;)
Alternatively, if you don't want to type /server irc.deathwyrm.net every single time, you can click the Server tab on the left of the Options Screen that opens up where you type your name/e-mail address, click Add, and then fill in the fields as such:
Description: Deathwyrm (that's what I put, it's not particularly important)
IRC Server: irc.deathwyrm.net
Ports: 6667
and then click Add. You can choose the server from the dropdown list and then just click Connect on the screen with your screen name and then it will autoconnect you to the server.
If you have an alternative chat client such as Pidgin or Trillian or the Chatzilla extension for Firefox, there will also be ways to get on IRC from those clients, but I don't have any personal experience with those clients, so I will leave it to someone else to explain how they work.
From the ghost town that is #Lusternia, I hope to see you there soon!

Resounding success! Hi, Faethyr
Unknown2009-02-25 16:05:11
I'm there!!
Unknown2009-02-25 17:33:07
C'mon, people. Back in the heyday, we had lots of fun in here, talking about almost anything you care to name, even Lusternia. It was a nice way of relaxing with other players without, actively browsing the forums. Or, y'know, playing.
Unknown2009-02-25 18:25:04
Oh, you hypocrite! You aren't even logged in on the channel!
Saaga2009-02-25 19:54:12
I miiight do this. Oh, brings up old memories of a ten-year-old me getting kicked out of an IRC channel for not telling them who I was. Poor me! The hurt!
I need to fix my computer first though. I call her ms. Snails.

Even Xenthos stopped showing up? He was the one I remember as always around.
Gaetele2009-02-25 23:21:21
We've increased regular channel attendance from 1-2 to 8-9 since I posted this thread! Keep 'em coming!

That's the problem right there. IRC is like... dead, if not dead then like some living fossil fish in the darkest deapths of on ocean...
A general person doesn't bother with IRC when they have myspace, facebook, aim, msn, skype, gtalk, icq, etc. People still using IRC in most cases are computer enthusiasts, sitting on their *nix machines from a shell account... yadda, yadda.
In a way you could compare it to amateur radio enthusiasts, sitting by a heap of radio equipment in the evening, hoping to catch a signal
Ummm, sorry to be negative. Just my thoughts...

Hater.
More productively, Aetolia has a rather active and busy IRC channel, albeit one subject to the temperments of the loudest people. I rather enjoyed my time there, and wouldn't mind a Lusternia IRC revival. There was definitely chatter going on when Kongregate had its promo, and that flash chat thingy was laggy and not as tidy as IRC.

Thats not really true. None of what you listed really specializes in large chat rooms like irc does.
I had a lot of fun on the #Lusternia and #Polaris channels until they died. The social part of the game is what keeps me around.

I'm pretty much always on the server, just haven't been in that channel much.
Casilu2009-02-28 05:10:08
Well, I joined now. It's very quiet.
Unknown2009-03-03 04:08:37
I have joined now ... still relatively quiet.
Rakor2009-03-04 20:39:06
The revival is in full swing! Pay no attention to anyone that claims it is quiet!
