I propose 2 skills: SickeningPattern and Amplify.
SickeningPattern functions like Herbbane, surrounding the target with a swirling pattern, making the target too nauseous to eat. Make it's strength depend on whether the target is blind or not?
Amplify functions like Batbane, magically increasing the sound around a target to increase sound damage, earache, etc. as Batbane. Shouldn't be affected by sixthsense or blindness, for obvious reasons.
I know that clone skills are frowned upon, but Glamours is desperately lacking as is, and this would increase it's usefulness tenfold.
Thoughts, etc?

sickening pattern doesnt sound too bad, but amplify i have an issue with
if glamours is a visual-based skill, how would it affect one's hearing?

Illusory sounds. Magicmouth, fireworks, so on. All have sound components.
Unknown2008-12-31 13:01:16
Ecology may be a bit ridiculous on one or two things, but Glamours is quite viable as-is.
Tael2008-12-31 18:08:00
Agreed. Glamours is not lacking, it's just that Ecology is better. If you want to somehow get Tarot some buffs more along the lines of usage with Bards, that's fine. But no clone skills. No skills that even come close to being similar to Batbane and Herbbane. Be more creative.
Shaddus2008-12-31 18:09:57
How about instead of herbane effect, make it randomly either give gluttony or slower herb balance?
Lekius2008-12-31 20:30:37
Well, instead of giving them those two, maybe we could change the afflictions that the colors give from colorburst/spray/maelstrom and rainbowpattern?
Like Shaddus said, maybe make one of the colours give gluttony/slow herb balance?
Xiel proposed adding a skill that would be like a room-wide flare (blindness stripping), which would be really useful, I think. It'd take about as much power as say maelstrom and would hit your enemies in the room only the more enemies in the room, the less likely it is to strip the blindness off all of them (I forgot the "proper" term but I think it's scales?)

If you want to buff city bards, the way to go about it is either buff Starhymn and Necroscream pretty substantially OR buff tarot. Buffing glamours with clone skills won't fix the problem.
A tarot rewrite for bards doesn't seem to be happening, so I'd suggest a song spec envoy. Really, after the over powered catastrophe that is Wildarrane, the Admin can't honestly reject a semi well put together rewrite for city bards. If they do, there is something really fishy going on.

Uh, yeah. Buff tarot = also buff Celestine. And that's just what we need
Yeah, I know, that wasn't the point.
Anyway, yeah, a buffing of the specs would be wonderful.
Shiri2009-01-01 00:37:56
There is already a starhymn report on the way, but it's pretty weird so I expect the admin will be inventing their own version.

They buffed Ecology without buffing Druids.. well, to some extent.
Just give Tarot some Bard-specific skills similar in nature to what they did to Ecology and I think that would address the issues with city bards. Starhymn and Necroscream could use some minor tweaks here and there, but I would say that Necroscream is still fairly strong. (See: Estwald)
..This thread does sort of make me laugh though. I remember when Bards first came out and it seemed like Commune Bards got shafted so badly. Now it's the other way around.

When they came out, Starhymn was the OP one, as I recall, because of all the offensive song powers and Recessional.
Necroscream and Wildarrane were crappiest, the excuse for it being that hunger/sleep was overpowered.
I'd agree that Starhymn/Necroscream could use some buffing, but we're looking at fairly major changes. It'd be nice if all the specs had some kind of unique mechanic, the way Spiritsingers do. Shadowbeat's bleeding seems a bit boring, but it's a step in the right direction. Necroscream was going for the disease thing, but diseases are largely useless. Starhymn has nothing but damage.

Celestines could use some buffing either way. They're really just one-hit-wonders in fights at this point.

Add anorexia to the list of colourburst afflictions.
Edit: Because, seriously, dementia? Do not want.

Fixed. Adding 40 fire damage to an attack doesn't make cantors high damage.

Vote 'Yes' for tarot specs
Unknown2009-01-01 19:05:23
Obvious tarot specs being that Guardians = High Arcana, Bards = Low Arcana?
And yes, Cantors are suck.
But that being said: the passive stun/blindness/anorexia/prone is better than anything Necroscream gets.

Necroscream are the best bashing bards (or bashing partners), at the very least. IIRC, Visaeris even said that that was a big part of his intent.

There is no passive stun. The 'anorexia' is worthless outside of aeon.
