There could be sizable chunk of xp tied to getting new honor lines. That way people wouldn't be able to farm the same quest for massive xp if there was only a boost to the first time you do it.

That may actually be a really good idea.

I agree as well! Implement please!

I just need something, anything, to make it a little easier. My attention span (I blame the Mtv) won't let me just sit and mash buttons for any extended period of time. Someimes when i force it, I end up bashing things out of my league to make it interesting, and the resulting deaths don't often net me much xp.
Also, it makes me get frustrated with quests and give up if I'm not making any progress so this might not be the best but anyway.

Lots of the ideas in this thread are really cool. But lots of them aren't feasible for the simple reason that they're going to up the administrative burden:
- it's all very well submitting logs of RP for xp, but someone has to go through the logs and take the decision as to whether xp is deserved and how much;
- the same goes for giving xp for published works: a system whereby xp was proportionate to length will have catastrophic consequences for publication quality (such as it is) - presumably we would need to read and grade them.
It would be great if there was some system which could reward good roleplay fairly and evenly; I think it would be great if people were rewarded more for using the library system. But if either or both of these suggestions were to be implemented it would place huge demands on us up here: and it wouldn't just mean less building and events, it would risk backlogs on designs, issues, bug sorting, typo fixing, etc etc etc. Plus, the numbers of active volunteers fluctuate. It's all very well taking on extra things to do when we've got a good sturdy volunteer staff (like now), but this time last year we were on a skeleton crew.
This is another idea I like in theory but not so much in practice. I've been writing this post on and off for about 4 hours in spare moments at work, and at one point I decided to start listing the various things that would need to be done to make it work. I gave up after the ninth bullet point. This would be a major, time-consuming project, and I'm not sure that it comes out well from the time to benefit analysis.

Just to throw in my support, the experience for quests should be drastically increased. Even completing a quest as quickly as possible, you still end up earning far less than what you'd have gained if you spent all that time bashing/influencing.

What about Llandros's idea about quest honor lines? That wouldn't require any admin involvement, just a small code change.

Yeah, I saw that subsequent to my post. I think that's a great idea.

What if library/theater prestige winners got an xp bonus (since you guys already do the judging for that). Maaaaybe a bonus for all who get something submitted for prestige, since there is a mechanical limit on how many can be submitted already.
Also, first time recording/viewing of a show - again, that's a one time thing. Only bit need be put in from the admin is the coding, and the one-off limit prevents it from being whored.

I didn't see Fain's post before I posted that last thing so....
If we can't have experience for writers can we at least get some things that would make it easier for writing? Like portable clip boards or something? Something where you can write things down, and then easily copy them into a book. Also more Divine support of writing would be awesome.
edit... Also I know you said it would be hard to code the exp gain, but I was wondering if it would help if these exp gains were based on word count?

Why would you need a clipboard? It's called Notepad. You type it in there, copy/paste in game, bam, easy.
Also, I think the whole reason the ability to write wherever was taken out because of abuse, because we used to be able to just write in journals wherever the heck we felt like.

Oh it would? May I ask why? I thought that all that would be neccessary was to look at the code that triggers when you complete the quest and just add another 0 or something to the experience award that already is in place.

I don't want to strip bare the way everything works and present it to you on a platter. You'll just have to take my word for it.

Actually I was thinking more of an artifact like a small portable desk. I just said it wrong before. What I meant was: Being able to write away from a desk would be awesome even if it costs credits.

Yes! I've suggested a similar artifact before!

Really? It takes all of five seconds to write at a desk, why on earth do you need a portable desk?
And once again, I must point to my earlier post about the original ability to write wherever was TAKEN OUT, most likely because of abuse.
