If you're down in the undervault or something and want to jot down some quick thing, getting to a desk is a hella lot more than a few seconds.
As far as abuse, well, make it a massive amount of credits to buy. People 'abuse' cubixes (cubix in, kick something, cubix out) but they're for sale. If someone does start abusing it by writing in the middle of a fight, well, that's what issues are for.

This is what Notepad and Wordpad are for. You can move it to a book or scroll later

The difference is, it removes you from the entire game when you are writing, not just from an area. You can wait a minute and "finish writing" and be exactly where you were before, with no reprecussions.

why cause the admins to have to worry about it, when a combination of wordpad/notepad and using a desk when you are near one works perfectly fine?
the way I see it, there is no life-or-death situation where if you don't write a book RIGHT THIS SECOND some terrible consequences are going to happen.
if you are just going to jot something down, (I'm sounding like a broken record) use your computers word editors or *gasp* use a pen and pencil.

Maybe I just want one and would be willing to spend hundreds of real life dollars to have one?
I mean, really. Why do we need anything any artifact does. They're extras. Perks we spend real money or real time (in the case of IC methods of obtaining credits) to gain.

Even by the standards of this forum, this clipboard hijack is pretty out of the blue.

I think we should get a double-sided coin artifact as well. That'd be fun.

Yeah, my bad.
On topic again, as for books being published that are of poor quality, isn't that what the Critique process is for? No library wants to publish books that'll be critiqued.

Yes, but I want a coin that only comes up as heads.

The only person you'd have trouble with there is the Librarian or one of their Aides abusing this. Of course they would lose their jobs. I think, however, that it might be too hard to code from what Fain said. I still would like to see Divine encourage people to write. It would also be nice if theaters gave xp every time a show was run.
Shiri2009-01-16 01:58:46
Noola, the library certainly doesn't monitor quality, as a quick glance at some of the crud in there will demonstrate. It's mainly for spelling, grammar and formatting. When quality is monitored (prestige) it's all admin-executed, like bardics.

EDIT: I'm curious as to how this charades business goes. All I can imagine is someone emoting waving his arms about in a "swan-like movement" and everyone guessing it's a swan. Hmmmm.
By bad, I meant to say Taboo, not Charades.
QUOTE (Shiri @ Jan 15 2009, 11:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Because as you may have noticed quests are not a popular way of gathering experience. Firstly they take a while to do, secondly they don't add -that- much experience, thirdly they take forever to respawn, fourthly they're easily interrupted and screwed up accidentally and people just do them before you. Also a long history of bugs which may be better with the new bugs system, but certainly wasn't historically. And some of them are just legitimately tricky to figure out.
I guess I should clarify my earlier idea. For the first point and second, that's why I suggested upping the experience, but since Fain says it is not feasible, then maybe not.
As for the third and fourth point, I was suggesting quests that anyone can do regardless of how often it has been done and if anyone has done it before. Perhaps quests wasn't the appropriate term, maybe 'mini-games' would be a better one. Something like the games in Neopets. A wide variety of games (like Taboo), which anyone can play at anytime. Of course, I don't know how feasible this is coding-wise.
Although, group quests do sound fun. It'll be like those puzzle platformers, where three people step on switches simultaneously to open the dungeon door!
I too support the boost in experience for getting a new quest honour!

I think I was talking to Noola...
Unknown2009-01-16 06:11:01
Yea, you were, its just that you clarified the problems with questing for XP so much more succinctly then I did, and that I forgot to quote Sadhyra, whom I was clarifying to.

Actually, if your word was 'Swan' you would not be allowed to use the word 'swan' in any of the emotes.
That's one of the rules. You can't use your word or phrase in the emote at all. Doing so disqualifies you. You would have to emote the actions of the charades. Just basicly, imagine you were playing Charades IRL, and write out what you would do for your word or phrase.
