I like the sample idea too, or some way of being able to ICly show designs. Maybe even just being able to sketch directly from a pattern number.

This is a good idea. All the workshops are indoors, right? They can all have bookshelves. Each Cartel can make an org book with all of their designs (or all the ones they want to circulate, some Cartels might have designs set aside for specific people/purposes they wouldn't want just anyone having) in them and customers could go to the workshop, scan through the books till they found the design they wanted and then it's just a matter of contacting someone in that Cartel. The books could even list Cartel members and skill levels in the front or something.
The sewing circle in Serenwilde is outdoors, I think.

What if there was a showroom area on Avechna's Peak where you could go and search through all public designs, and all cartel ones, unless the trademaster set it as a "super-private" design? I think a "preview zone" would be a good idea, sort of, but a database (outside) would be better, and just make the tailor or artisan search that.
Most of the time, I use Veonira's tailoring source (tailoring.serenedream.net) (which is SQL, I think?). It's amazingly useful to be able to browse quickly, and copy designs off.

Oh. The TELLDESIGN idea... I like that one. a lot. something like "TELLDESIGN , or better yet, TELLDESIGN APPEARANCE... so you don't show them the comm costs and stuff, just the name and the examined description.

Commenting on the private library bit - not all traderooms can have furniture made, and once again, Artisans don't have a room, they build on the spot.
As to the computer idea, just have a command so that the person who wants to show is able to show it, rather than a cataloging idea that anyone can browse. This would save on copy paste time, and keep from having to pester Trademasters for more stuff. They could just tell their cartel-mates not to show certain things.
