And suddenly, I just found out why so many of our skills appear to be so useless.

DespairWeb, TortureSong, SobbingDread, DemonSong and most plagues are not that great for a bard...
but mesh incredibly well with Necromancy, Nihilism and Tarot

In other words, the skillset appears to have been planned to serve as support for the Nihilists, but unfortunately is not really that hot by itself...

OKay, Log time. From the viewpoint of...lets call him Frank. Frank vs. Rainbowpattern/maelstron/carillonknell/blackdeath/sickeningplague/contagion/colourburst

This log shows a couple things.

First, scabies and epilepsy don't do anything. They had no significant effect because they were cured before they fired.

Two, blackdeath has a decent rate of firing. That's not the issue. The issue is that, again, the afflictions it gives aren't affecting him.

Three, Carillonknell didn't do anything. The most Frank took was 300 or so. In fact, the only noticeable damage he took was from my colourburst hitting with indigo.

Four, food > hunger. Hunger didn't phase him one bit.

The log is a lot longer. A good 5 solid minutes and he shrugged everything off.

How about, change/create/use plagues which are skin-based? Some of them seem to already be skin-based, such as scabies and pox. Gives them an identity, and perhaps based around 'beauty is skin-deep', seeing as they are bards. It would also let the plagues be stacked on salve balance, and if that's not enough, maybe give them some way to do slickness (or the prevent salve application affliction if I got the name wrong) as well?

EDIT: Also, epilepsy, worms and rigor mortis do not sound like plagues to me. Perhaps a different set of afflictions?

It wasn't, but in your post, you did say that 'Gods don't fight, players do'. Unless a God that was a mortal and an experienced fighter ascended and is helping design combat, it may technically open the possibility that some players are more experienced in actually fighting in the game than Gods. Access to the code/shell does quite a lot, though, so it's a striking balance.

I draw my aforementioned conclusion from other things.

Most if not all divine have been players before, many of them have been combatants or know combat theory. Some more than others, but its the variety that leads to the best results.

The italics is what I'm really going to address there: this is what I assume is the main problem of a special report? Maybe the groups for current special reports need to be revamped or better picked? I don't know, I realize communication is a huge portion of the creative/mechanical design process - so much so that I can't even really refute the above statement a slight bit. It seems like people just not kicking around ideas is the big problem with all sorts of 'requested' reports like those that focus on improving a whole skillset - and from what I'm getting here, if it's a dud, they don't get another shot for ages.

What I also hear is that people simply stop in to stomp all over ideas for being overpowered without supplying their own input regarding what could work better or if the skill could work if toned down or.. yeah, you get me. Maybe it's just that bare minimum communication does nothing?

I don't think I need to display PK brilliance in Lusternia to know at least an iota of what I'm talking about when it comes to basic IRE balance, though I find it a little funny that you'd call me out and get offended when I as a player question how balance is handled here. As somebody who comes to IRE games with a bent for PK, I think it should be my concern that it is at least halfway fair or well-developed. So far it's been more than both. I've done classlead work elsewhere, I've done combat elsewhere. As a prospective and learning PKer here, I'm pretty sure that commenting on this kind of stuff is part of what makes the game fun. If you feel like my feedback is faulty, that's entirely your opinion, but it won't stop me from supplying it.

You're very snide. You do manage a veneer of civility but it can't cover your evident disdain. It's an effective tactic because if the less gracious implications of your posts are addressed, you can throw up your hands and say "I didn't mean that, I'm being perfectly civil!".

I do, however, respect your ability to mea culpa on your old set of posts - they were very unhelpful, and sometimes deliberately so: indeed, I clearly remember one occasion when you told your clan cronies that you'd just posted a really offensive post and you were taking bets on whether or not you'd be banned. That's just tedious - it doesn't help anyone. It doesn't help you, it doesn't help us, it doesn't help the players. So yes, if you could work on your need to provoke an adverse reaction then you'd be a far more effective communicator.

Ultimately, you need to remember that the forums are not the locus of administrative interaction regarding balance (nor is it feasible that they will ever be); the envoys are. If you want a point made, you should do it through your envoy because that way you can guarantee that it will be given a good hearing and be properly thrashed out.
