So is anybody familiar with Kurt Vonneguit's work?
Not yet, but one of my courses this semester is having us read Slaughterhouse-Five. Why?

Which is a pretty dumb argument to begin with. When there is one little thing wrong with something you don't go into massive overhaul mode.
huh?
At the city council meetings, people kept comming up and saying "we need to fix this sign to be gramatically correct", and then other people would come up and say "We need to keep this sign the ways its always been!" And they would waste countless hours with people complaining this way or that.
Since the city has for the past few decades creating signs without any punctuation, the city decided that its best to just make a final ruling that there is no apostrophe, and then they will stop wasting our time in meetings with stupid arguments.

Huh, I may have read that story at some point. It seems pretty familiar (it's the dancing with the ballerina part that sparks my memory). That's pretty funny applied to this situation, though.

It's ok, guys. If Brits are confused by punctuation, let the Brits remove their own punctuation. If Brits can't talk about punctuation without a five hour long stereotypically British passive-aggressive roast orgy, then let the Brits streamline their governance with ego-inflating edicts. The rest of us will go on using proper English.

If someone is unable to comprehend something as simple as an apostrophe when English is their NATIVE LANGUAGE, they do not deserve to live. :|

But when do you think they will finally get rid of all those extra letter Us in their words?

Yes, but the Mayan calendar just stops on Dec. 21, 2012. Doomsday website.
The real event in 2012.

I don't get it, If they remove the apostrophe, won't they also have to remove the 'S' since the word is no longer possessive?

Maybe, instead of "King's Square" or the square that belongs to the King, it is now "Kings Square" the square of many Kings!

Removing the apostrophe removes the possessive. Now, instead of King's Way (the Way Belonging to the King), it will just be Kings Way (the Way of Many Kings). Which doesn't solve the problem. No, King's Way is not owned by the King. But would Kings Way then be the way on which many Kings to go down? No. Grammar + Street Signs = Stupidity. Let's look at my neighborhood in Chicago.
Should Saginaw, Marquette, Muskegon, Manistee, Escanaba, Houston, Baltimore, Burnham, Buffalo, Burley, Mackinaw, and Green Bay Aves. all be renamed because they aren't actually the cities they are named after? Should Exchange be renamed because no exchanging or marketing of any kind goes on there? Should Carondolet be renamed because it cross the Calumet, not Carondolet?
So "King's Way" isn't owned by the King. And? Streets are named in different times, and what they were named for may not even exist anymore. It doesn't mean you get all huffy about it.
