Kata weapon forging.

So I've been working at this nekai now for about 22 hours, and I've yet to see 110 speed from it. I know that the stats always total 300... so the only way that 110 could be achieved is with 95 damage/precision, which I know is possible because I have a Nekotai monk with perfect speed nekai.

The question is: can it be achieved without a mallet of forging? I have always been under the impression that the mallet does not actually improve the stats on an item, but simply reduces the time it takes to forge. The help file supports this. However, after so much time spent on a single nekai, having never seen anything above 105 speed, I don't know if it is actually possible to do anymore.

Short answer, yes. Long answer, the probability of getting a 110 speed nekai with a mallet is 1/6561. Without one, it is 1/14348907.

So the mallet actually -does- increase the stats you get? The times that I've borrowed a mallet I've never been able to document a noticeable change.

Can you confirm this somehow?

I don't think Rika said anything about "increasing the stats" -- it's just a matter of manipulating the RNG.

The mallet halves the balance time as well as how many forges it takes to get to max, so each time you hit FORGE, twice as many stats are added. It takes 15 forges for a nekai to get from 95/95/95 (base) to full (total of 300 stats). Kata weapons are easy, as each time you hit forge, you add one stat if you don't have a mallet, two if you do. To get to 110 speed, you need to hit the speed stat every time you FORGE, so the probability of that happening fifteen times in a row is 3^15 = 14348097. With a mallet, it only takes half as many hits, so it is 3^8 = 6561

In summary: Forging with a mallet sucks. Forging without a mallet is exponentially worse.

That second sentence makes me cry a little bit. As does forging in general.

See my post regarding improving forging, if you haven't already. If you don't like my ideas, suggest your own there! I would really like to see something done with forging, because as of now it's absolute garbage. I like being able to forge for my guild, and for others (for profit), but I considered giving up a transed skill just because I don't normally have the time to sit for countless hours on one weapon set.

your thread died. I would suggest doing something IG about the idea, and try to have experiments where power affects forging.
