I think I missed the memo where emoting = good roleplay. Am I the only one who finds people who constantly are emoting kind of annoying? It's like overacting in my opinion. Yes, I get it, you're dark and brooding. Must you swirl your cloak around you and twirl your mustache?

This is so true. I hate people who assume that roleplay equates to the kind of ridiculous, over-the-top acting you see in high school drama classes. My favourite kind of roleplay is the day to day variety, where people stick to a role; irrespective of how boring or unspectacular it might be.

(Not to say that some over-the-top, overacting character aren't good. Every world needs a BRIAN BLESSED or TOM BAKER, after all. laugh.gif )

I always feel awkward when I'm talking to someone and they throw out two or three lines worth of custom emote for every three words of actual speaking they do. I honestly don't think that quickly on my feet so I feel like I'm the village idiot or something with my couple of words of say emoting cause that's all I could think of or I try to get something as good done and it winds up being corny or full of spelling mistakes (because I can't spell and as far as I know you can't spell check what you type into mushclient before you hit enter and even if you could then I'd just be even SLOWER and that'd make me feel just as bad). I wind up trying to avoid those people cause I don't like to feel retarded. laugh.gif

Hah. Immediately after I said that I've never seen any lollersnuggling in the Moonhart Mother Tree, everyone keeps hopping and snuggling when I get there. rolleyes.gif Perhaps I just haven't been paying attention to it before since it doesn't really annoy me. But sorry Everiine, I understand your previous point.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like it happens all the time. But it seems that whenever people are going to publicly act like idiots, the choose the nexus as their meeting place.

I can't say I've experienced this emo RP in Glomdoring that people keep talking about.

Maybe I hang out with the wrong crowd.

The whole anti-emo Black Sorrow thing is why the BT got rid of that emote. If Nyir starts brooding, Xavius is going to start holding impromptu combat lessons. Gotta keep the champions sharp!

On the canned-versus-custom emotes thing, I think there's a world of difference between someone who regularly uses canned emotes like cupcheek, chin, or even giggle, and one who regularly uses canned emotes like doomed, lurve, or even nowai. The former might well be conducting realistically understated roleplay, expressing a character who is a real person with real mannerisms. The latter is more like the overuse of custom emotes: used too often, it becomes a drama queen saying "Hey! Over here, I am Roleplaying With A Capital R, so look at me!" Whether the use of the EMOTE command is a virtue or a vice depends on much the same distinction. Good roleplaying isn't always the roleplaying that screams to draw attention to itself, any more than it's always the roleplaying you can't even see.

Serenguard, Huh? I'll make a Serenwilde either tonight or tomorrow and check it out. I'm taking it that Serenguard is almost the same as the Ur'Guard in a sense?

Serenguard is more like a brotherhood-type tribe of warriors. Actually, the Stripe advancement system fits really well with the overall RP of the guild.
