This. Big difference between cheerful RP and a chatroom feel. Although I would think that Celest is the most vanilla of the orgs - it's a city full of merians that reincarnated into humans because they were sick of getting fried and roasted, after all.
Fixed.

How is Glomdoring vanilla?
Because it's just a generic "dark forest." They're all over the place, really. There are unique aspects, but then Celest and Serenwilde (more Serenwilde) have unique aspects too. They're still basically archetypes. Magnagora manages to get more than one, between the "evil city" and "steampunk" and the "noble house rivalry" deals.
Mihewi2009-03-06 17:37:59
Celest is a city that SHOULD be full of merians... but is instead full of humans. Thanks to that whole "merians suck" thing that is seriously unfortunate. I'd love to see more merians and less humans all over Celest.
There are way less humans in Serenwilde, Glomdoring, and Magnagora than there are in Celest.
But this swerves away from the topic at hand and is just me clarifying something I said. Go on!
Edit - Basically the edit to my post that the girl with the mutated gopher avatar made, yes.

Taking a break is the best solution here.

Alrighty!
First thing, the "my/this org is unique and deep with vibrant RP and your/that org is a bland, vanilla chatroom" stuff needs to go. Seriously, what pretentious nonsense. While there are RP differences, even attitude differences, the whole game is one playerbase at the end of the day. On top of that how many people swap orgs during their time? That's what this thread is about! How many people make alts they may even play somewhat regularly, and fit right in to some other org on said alt? Plenty, I'm certain- but you don't register them as the same player of that character doing those things that bother you in that other org.
I've made alts and tried out every org to at least some extent, and there just isn't that much of a difference between what goes on in them to sit back and seperate them out with generalizations. Yes, there are some differences. If you go in to one looking for the expected behavior that you've managed to create yourself, you're going to eventually find it. And then, because you were looking for it, you'll notice it that much more, roll your eyes, and say "I was right about this place, of course."
So all that's really going on is individuals looking for flimsy reasons to put their organization of choice, and by extention, themselves, on an internal little pedestal such that, somehow, they are better/deeper/more mature players than the other people doing the same damn thing across the aisle.
That's retarded.
For Kialkarkea- if you're bored with Celest, you're probably going to be bored everywhere else too. The "newness" of a new org will probably wear off pretty quickly, and then you'll be bored again, but with lower might. Then again, maybe not. Maybe you'll be one of the few people who swap and find something to actually hold on to your attention that didn't exist where you used to be. Like, I dunno, Jigan. Or... or Jigan.
But, for most people who get bored, the problem is more internal, with the game itself, than a state afflicted on them by the org they are in. Many people seem to swap orgs to mix things up, and then go inactive after a short while anyway.
Or, worse for them, they swap, and realize that the place they used to be fit them pretty well, and wasn't the horrible, dull place they had built it up to be after all, and that switching was a mistake. So then they come full circle, hemorrhaging lessons the whole way, and wind up right back where they started.
My advice to you- if a place interests you, right now, go make an alt. Play that alt for a few weeks. Try not to set up justifications or expectations about the place you're trying out, and just soak it in. If you really love it, and it really makes you want to switch there, then freaking do it.
If you don't, well, you saved yourself a metric-crap-ton of trouble and lesson loss with your little experiment.
What you really shouldn't do, is come on the forums, wave like the queen, and ask everyone to woo you with how great their org is. Because they aren't you, if nothing else. Failing that, you would be listening to a bunch of half-baked yahoos on an internet forum telling you what you would and wouldn't enjoy in a text game based on their own preferences and biases.
Which also seems retarded.
Or a cry for attention.
Or, alternately, you just made the post to watch people have a e-pissing contest over their orgs and sterotypes for your own amusement, in which case I am impressed at the accomplishment and amused with the result.
Finally, for the sake of a feel-good ending, ask yourself if there's anything at all that you could do differently in game, with your character, that would make things less boring for you. Flopping around orgs and guilds without a solid idea of what would be fun for you is probably just a huge waste of time delaying the inevitable.
Yes, that was feel good.

I don't think anyone ever said one org was better/had any extraordinary depth of rp- what was stated was opinions, and they were presented as such. If the vanilla and chatroom wording offends, well, again they were presented as opionions. What's amusing is that you're comfortable as condemning the opinions of others as being "pretentious nonsense" or posts retarded while presenting your own as right.
Heck, do you see Glom players champing at the bit over the emo label? Newp. We simply make sure our bangs are in proper order and press onward.

Alright.
-First, I'm not asking for you to "woo" me. I'm just asking what the RP is like in each org. What's up with it.
-Take a Break? Compared to my usual playing of the game nigh constantly, I've pretty much backed off and taken to playing my other games for about the past week. Maybe log on to say hello to everybody, then pop up into the manse and timeout.
Here's my problem: Celest used to have fun interesting RP to gripe and dance and antagonize people over. Unfortunately, all of that nice civil-war has dissapeared. Yes, there's still an undercurrent, but things have been pretty quiet as of late, and there doesn't seem to be any letting up going on soon. It's boring. There's no conflict, everyone is getting along Fine. There are no political opportunities, no debates on the aether, ectetera. It's just dried up from what I've seen. It's just not going anywhere from what I've seen.

Sounds like someone wants Glomdrama! There won't be major debates, but there will be quiet anger!!

Maybe we need to start a fire in Celest. I think we are in a bit of a lull right now, but in a week or two it could change completely. I get so busy with my jobs there that I rarely have time to be bored. I often miss the "not having anything to do times". I get breaks every now and again, but usually when I'm around there are tons of things for me to do. (Most of the time when I'm just in the forums I can think much more clearly). There are a few events coming up in the city, so you may want to look into those. Talk to me later tonight. There are some IC things I want to talk to you about.
Vhaas2009-03-06 20:58:26
This phenomenon is known as "entropy". People perceive the organization in a state of decay and fret over it. The way to stop entropy is through generating the desired roleplay and enthusiasm you will to be, being the change you want to see. Entropy takes place on a personal level; the first-MUD novices in your city probably aren't too down about things.
If it comes to the point where you genuinely feel you cannot spark these things for a lack of approval, I would quit the organization. If you lack the enthusiasm to do so (here!), I would take an extended break and enjoy activities that diverted my mind from the game.
