Celest is dull. I'm sorry, but the RP of it is starting to grate on me, and there's really nothing in it that grabs my attention or motivates me to run along and actually participate. So what're the other orgs like right now? I haven't taken a stroll around on an alt in....

Okay, so I haven't taken a stroll around on an alt period. Give me a state of the basin on your orgs so I can make a nice well informed decision.

Hmm...

Well, Serenwilde has it's ups and downs. Ups, lots of demigods. Downs? A number of people who like to RP their old geezers.
The spiritsingers... are awesome, in a way. The happiest guild around, with very little argument. Unfortunately, You have Xiel Viynain as GM, so you can't exactly push him out, unless he challenges somebody else, Lendren as GA, who's held the position since the guild was founded, and Lekius as GC, and most everybody loves Lekius.

So, fun-loving guild, but don't expect to be able to successfully challenge any of the Pantheon elected guild leaders.

I live in Celest, that's pretty normal, but I'd really like to avoid that kind of stagnancy

I have to say for all that the SS have stagnency, it's only there because it works well. They've been challenged before, people aren't afraid to do it, at least I don't believe there is. And why throw out something that's not broken, or even rusty?

Kial - wherever you go, there'll be a few niggles. Glomdoring is awesome if you play at the right times, and so you've got a reasonable number of people there. I frequently sit around as the only Harbinger on during the day GMT and it can get depressing. But then everywhere has this problem really, I'm pretty sure Mag does too, I personally only have experience with Glom though.

Serenwilde is great, and is large enough that whatever you're looking for you will find it there. From an RP point of view this would be a very interesting time to move because Celest are generally not liked by most of the population. Seren would be fun to go to off the back of that - but then so would Glom. Mag almost seems a predictable one to go to, from my point of view. Depends on whether you see City>Commune as a progression that's easier to make than Commune>City, though.

I am not certain if any of that helped. Perhaps more specific questions? What archetypes are you looking at? Or even just 'I have no idea' if that's the case wink.gif

You've been harping on about how you've been bored with Lusternia for the past week and a half, just take a break.
Fyler2009-03-06 02:45:30
I had a short lived stint in Serenwilde, and it was not engaging at all. Everyone was nice. Really nice. Overly nice.

Any sort of discussion I saw was more like a chatroom, which is why I left. I'm sure there are pockets of RP and I'm not saying "they are doing it wrong," simply that if you are looking for engaging RP...I wouldn't suggest Serenwilde.

You set your bar for RP to high. Magnagora has to have a higher degree of "RP" because it's a tainted city run by a warlord. Everything in the city is tainted, so it's easier to be different than the real world, hence "RP". Serenwilde, on the other hand, is "The last commune", run by a friendly regent. Seren RP will generally be happier than Magnagoran RP, and thus harder to see. Mir's character, for instance, is very, very, very cheerful. It's how I set her up. Would that work in Magnagora? No.

But... You should stay, and try to fix the problem! Don't just say, "Seren has no engaging RP", and leave...

...Or not...
Noola2009-03-06 15:17:07
I challenge the notion that 'engaging RP' has to be dour and dark and somber. Why can't it be cheerful? What makes lighthearted RP of less value?

Obviously there is no RP to being happy and cheerful and funny. It's why everyone hates Eventru. He may be constantly in a character, but since he's funny, he's not roleplaying. Any hint of cheerfulness or happiness is not roleplaying. Gregori lives in Serenwilde and therefore must never be RPing. Same with Laysus and Everiine. And Lisaera and Charune and Maylea. Definately can't RP because they can't be dark. OBVIOUSLY.

On the contrary! Kiriwe is very bright and cheerful and naive, and she's in Magnagora. Does she fit in? No Does everybody like her? No. But that doesn't mean that there aren't happy people in Magnagora tongue.gif

I just got put on the same level as Gregori and Laysus. wub.gif Cas.

That is a compliment, right?

From the gist of what Fyler commented on, his own observation based on his experience was that Serenwilde was like a chatroom. I don't think that's saying that allegedly good, cheerfuly roleplayed characters are somehow less valid than the darker variety. However, Serenwilde is arguably the most vanilla of orgs and the most easily identifiable with the real world, so it's to be expected that the rp be of a more congenial and real world feel to it.

I think the thing with Seren is that because it's got so many people in it, the 'focused' RP tends to be found within Orders, Guilds, families etc. So when you first appear, it's not vibrantly aparrent. What you see is the day-to-day chattiness, not the down-and-gritty stuff that is being mentioned above in relation to Glom/Mag.

When I'm really board playing in Celest I create an Alt. I know you don't get to take all your cool gadgets and stuff with you, but it's fun being someone else for a change. Maybe even take the alt somewhat seriously. It is a really good break from just changing completely. I was all ready to have Fania leave the Aquamancers/Celest, but when I created a new Alt it gave me the chance to try different things.

This. Big difference between cheerful RP and a chatroom feel. Although I would think that Celest is the most vanilla of the orgs - it's a city full of humans, after all.

...huh?

I would have said Celest is the most generic anyway, although Glomdoring and Serenwilde are both plenty generic (Mag is the most unique org here) but how do you figure about the humans thing? There are humans everywhere. And in the canon Celest is ostensibly a city of merians.

How is Glomdoring vanilla?

Also, the canon says Celest is a Merian city. How many Merian are actually in Celest right now?
