Internet Relay Chat.
Precursor to modern chat rooms. You need a client to connect, once conected, there are a bunch of servers with tons of rooms with topics ranging from anything you could possibly imagine. It's not just for chatting, though, as there is a lot of files being swapped about. I use it to download obscure Japanese music because I hate torrents biggrin.gif
