Which Philosophy Do You Follow?

My friends and I used to dabble with this quiz and introduce it to new acquaintances from our classes. While by no means all-encompassing, in the history of our usage it has seemed to yield striking consistency with the participants' axiological paradigms (axiology, being the philosophy of values pertaining to things such as ethics, morals, and aesthetics. Since the results give a very sensitive glimpse of our persons and can sometimes come into controversy, I am not going to suggest anyone post them here, but that they merely take the quiz, with a grain of salt (many of the questions a number of people will find ambiguous and vague, with due cause), and let their minds run rampant.

If you have any other quizzes on the subject, why not post them here?

Now take the test.

That was actually pretty accurate...90% Existentialism. Neat.

If it needs any clarification, the percentage tell how much your own personal views match up to the "ideal" framework of each philosophy, though it's hard to give these things cookie-cutter definitions.

I knew that part, I just want to know what that second philosophy on my list means. I'll assume something about I only care about me.

You Scored as Justice (Fairness)

Your life is guided by the concept of Fair Justice: Everyone, yourself included, should be rewarded and punished according to the help or harm they cause.

"He who does not punish evil commands it to be done." --Leonardo da Vinci
“Though force can protect in emergency, only justice, fairness, consideration and cooperation can finally lead men to the dawn of eternal peace.” --Dwight D. Eisenhower

It...works. I don't ascribe to any of those, but if I was forced to pick, I'd probably go with Existentialism.

I think that means we should be super villains.

Edit: Yeah, after reading that link, that combination makes me sound like some sort of super villain.

The majority of the results were kinda expected. What I didn't expect was that, according to the quiz, I was so hedonistic and apathetic.

Practically all quizzes are like that. I don't study philosophy, but I could roughly guess what each question is trying to ask of me. Maybe I don't know the names, but I could guess.
Vhaas2009-03-24 05:31:40
Too, the results aren't incompatible. You could be an existentialist (basically believes that she is the one who defines meaning/purpose) who believes that she is entitled/obliged to do so under divine command (Soren Kierkegaard was such a fellow to some degree), and so on.

I have an Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy. I will post the definitions later tonight/tomorrow for anyone who wishes to mull over them.
Unknown2009-03-24 05:31:41
I always take quizzes with a large pinch of salt, so, yeah, I don't mind posting my results. I often find myself putting results of what I think of as the ideal character, instead of the real me, and sometimes I cannot tell the difference, and so the results are often a mixed reflection of the real me and the me that I want to be, so I always take them with a huge pinch of salt.

You Scored as Utilitarianism

Your life is guided by the principles of Utilitarianism: You seek the greatest good for the greatest number.
“The said truth is that it is the greatest happiness of the greatest number that is the measure of right and wrong.” --Jeremy Bentham
“Whenever the general disposition of the people is such, that each individual regards those only of his interests which are selfish, and does not dwell on, or concern himself for, his share of the general interest, in such a state of things, good government is impossible.” --John Stuart Mill

Yeah, it's kind of like Philosophy 101 here. It makes your answers biased when you know which one you'll get when you are choosing them.
