Agreeing with Narsrim here.

I'm not joking, but I'm not disagreeing with the sentiment that it could be changed, either. I'm just providing a different perspective (as someone who's never changed guilds and probably never will) by playing devil's advocate for a little while. By all means, continue with your legacy code ranting then!

No. No no no no no. Whilst, yeah, it would be better for all you credit whores to be able to switch around willy nilly that'd remove (in my opinion) a lot of the RP, would your character, that has been a mage or a paladin or one of those poxy bards be able to pick up every new skill easily? No, of course not, in the same way that some artist in real life can't decide that today he or she is going to be a nuclear physicicst, it's SUPPOSED to be annoying, they've already made it so you don't have to actually spend years training to trans a skill, that's enough of an allowence.

I am not going to be any more impressed with someone who picked up my guildskills in 15 minutes than I would be if they did it in 2 hours. There is seriously no RP being cut out here. Narsrim is quite right and there really is no good reason for it to continue to exist.

(Then again, I also don't care either way...sheesh, just afk a couple hours.)
Zynna2009-03-30 15:46:42
I agree with Narsrim. There already is a limit to the number of credits you can convert to lessons per day, so there should be no reason to force someone to have to reach that limit in 15 lesson increments, rather than 150 lesson increments after X hours of play/X level.

What RP? Can you show me some logs that show the value of the roleplay in spending an hour learning a skill versus 6 minutes? I've played IRE for a long time. I've never seen one. It must be some exciting roleplay to sit around and have your guild tutor say the exact same thing hundreds of times in a row.

As always Lawliet, you'd be able to learn 1 X-skill from tutor too. I just want to be able to learn 150 because I have better things to do than sit afk with triggers firing for hours (it's amazing RP, isn't it?).

I don't have better things to do. I took forging.
Aison2009-03-30 16:01:47
There -can- be some RP gleaned from sitting and learning, but it's dull and not very fulfilling. Basically you sit there attentively. Whoo. Anyone who has been through school knows how terrible that can be. Can be fun with someone there to teach you though, when you first start.
Aoife2009-03-30 16:10:06
Even a jump to max 60 lessons at a time would be an improvement. I don't really see the "RP" in AFKing for several hours with a trigger set. confused.gif

Diamondais2009-03-30 16:14:46
There may be some "rp" the first couple times you see a skill, but after that it's just dull and tedious. And as always, real world comparisons don't really fit here, considering it is a game based on a fantasy setting which has you learning skills anyways in the matter of a couple ig days, at current time, rather than the actual years it would take you to learn, providing any of this actually existed, I don't see a problem.

There's been a lot of times where I haven't had the time to log in and just learn skills because of how long it takes, meaning several days would likely go by before I finished learning anything.
Unknown2009-03-30 18:25:30
Or, make it so that anyone who can Mentor can learn in sets over 15.
Just a thought.

It would also make newbie first training a lot simpler to explain to the newbies. The whole "you need 22 lessons to get this vital starting skill, but you have to do that as 15 and then 7" is just an entirely unnecessary complication at the time when unnecessary complications are most undesirable. I, too, agree with Narsrim.
Unknown2009-03-30 18:53:35
Sounds like a good idea to me.

...Narsrim's, that is.
Shamarah2009-03-30 18:59:09
Agree with Narsrim, this has always seemed pointless to me.

I'm not transed all my skills, but learning skills for the first time is even a pain. It's really not so bad when the world of Lusternia is all new and shiny, but after you have been here for a while it gets annoying to have to sit around for so long to learn lessons. (BTW I haven't even seen a percentage change when I train other people, so no help there either.)

That is a very minimal reward, you likely will not see it.

Oh no you have to spend a couple of hours learning some skills, God forbid you ever take up forging.

Yeah, games shouldn't be fun!
