*gasp* I switched classes again.
I'm left wondering though why it takes so long for a veteran player to learn skills. I think it's rather silly and a complete waste of time and resources. I can understand the need for novices, but at a certain point, I think you should be able to learn in sets of 150 lessons or so at a time reducing it from about 60 minutes to 6 minutes to transcend an ability.
Much like how the silly credit conversion was upgraded, learning needs updated. I suggest after playing X hours, it's assumed you have some basic idea of the learning process and therefore, you may learn at a faster rate. Or level. Or something. It doesn't matter.

So, what are you now?
Everiine2009-03-30 05:04:08
I think it's to prevent someone from going "Lol, I used to be a transcendent Nihilist, but yesterday I decided I wanted to be a Hartstone. Lol, I learned everything in a day and now I'm a perfect Hartstone!". It makes absolutely no sense that you would instantly know everything about a skill you just picked up.

Of course, you can go from transcendent Nihilism to transcendent Druidry in a hour. You just have to waste an entire hour learning. And then a few more to learn other crap. I really think this is a non issue, and if this is what you're concerned will make/break your RP, you have other bridges to burn.

Except instead, you actually do learn it in a day, just not five minutes or so. So even if that was a good reason, it isn't the one being used.

Takes about a day, or plenty more, for you to learn anyways. Knowing skills does not make you awesome.

And besides that, being a "perfect Hartstone" shouldn't rely on just buying a bunch of credits.
MYRRH GUM!
10 credits: for the next Lusternian day, you may learn lessons in increments of up to 100 at a time.

I just figure it's a way to try and deter people switching guilds all the time.

Only it should be a bookbinder skill to make the whatever-it-is, not an herbalist skill. Makes more sense, and god knows herbalists don't need a boost and bookbinders do.

You want bookbinders to make an artifact?

Sounds counter productive to business.

Well, that's silly, it's a consumable, makes more sense as a tradeskill-made item. (Yeah, I know there are other consumable artifacts, that's not the point.)

It may not promote credit sales, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad for business on the whole. Stability of organizations can be a good thing, too. Heck, it might even encourage some people to create new characters rather than move their existing characters, and that could very well translate to more credit sales.
Enero2009-03-30 15:19:08
Would be pretty nifty, yeah... Increase the leesons you can learn if the person has played more than XYZ hours, or maybe have spent certain amount of lessons already.
Main problem with this here is that a vast majority of the player base have absolutely no idea just how annoying it is to sit at a tutor for hours and hours, just to learn those skills.
I think the craziest switch I've done was Tahtetso -> Aquamancer. Had to forget Tahtetso, Acrobatics, Harmony, Herbs and Lowmagic. Had to learn Aquamancy, Phantasms, Telekinesis, Highmagic and Tailoring. That's five skills... once you go through something like that, you'll understand just what Narsrim means.

I really really really hope you're joking. If we need to stabilize organizations in Lusternia by finding glorified means to waste time, there is a serious undercurrent that needs addressed, and I honestly don't think it's anything of this sort.
It's legacy code. It's out of date just like credit conversions was, and it needs updated. Likewise, it's never once deterred me from switching guilds. It just wastes my precious time.
