Eventru has suggested constructed criticism might be the key to fixing this silly event. I just lost because my opponent who attacked me just ran the entire time to expire 3 minutes time thus winning by default. Seems a little botched, no? If you attack someone, you shouldn't be able to win by not attacking. It's illogical.
QUOTE (My suggestions)
+ The time limit should be 10 minutes, and both pieces should be defeated if neither can win in that period of time.
+ Each room should be outdoors not indoors. The indoor restriction prohibits a lot of combat based skills like Astrology Metors.

Sorry about that mate, I came in for the fight and was handed a debate, so figured the fight was in the other room...

In real chess, the attacker always wins. Battlechess gives the attacker the advantage. It's perfectly logical, really.
10 minute rounds is way too long considering how long they last already.
edit: hahaha, Eth.

What's to stop someone from attacking someone and doing the following:
Invoke Serpent. Wait 60 seconds. Divinefire. Wait 60 seconds. Invoke Serpent. Wait 60 seconds. Win? It's impossible to defeat someone who attacks you with the current rules given all the ways you can delay someone. If you attack someone, you should HAVE to attack them to win. You shouldn't be able to run.

Funny thing is, if the shoe was on the other foot, and we were whining, Narsrim would think it was fair. Seeing as most if not all of your side had TF's anyway, I think you had an advantage as it is.

Why didn't you bring this up BEFORE the match, if you're that worried?

Bringing up irrelevant points doesn't add to the discussion. A truefavor doesn't grant you an automatic victory.

So if both people are competent, then the attacker wins by default... kind of like regular chess, huh?

I'd never played battlechess before. This was my first match, and I find the game stupid as is.
Arix2009-04-08 01:31:41
Narsrim. I totally agree with you, except about the meteor part. I also think that once you are directed to attack someone, there should be a Carcer effect to keep either person from running

Competent? How are you competent if you have Serpent? Or Divinefire? Or Bubble? Or Stoneflesh? Or Pits? Or Trueheal? Or any other host of skills that allow you to just buy time?
Xenthos2009-04-08 01:32:35
You forgot refresh power, Nars.
Also: Being able to move a King into check causes major issues in terms of length and, well, strategy. When you've got nothing but a king left, sure-- before that, your kind should have SOME restraints on its movement. Moving into check is not chess, unfortunately. Even though there are other tweaks, this one's one of the major issues that removes the chess aspect.
The other one (hold out for 3 minutes) is, at least, still along the lines of chess-- normally your piece would automatically win. In battlechess there's a chance of your piece losing when it moves.

So anyone with soulless automatically wins, right?

Have you ever played battlechess? Anyone has knows your question looks... ridiculous.
Narsrim2009-04-08 01:35:41
I guess with Highmagic, I could just Great Pentagram whore. Then no one could even get into my room. That'd be interesting. I move to attack a piece and I defeated it by never actually seeing it.

Nothing, but drawing out the match forever isn't going to change much. An illusionist can reflect whore for three minutes jsut as easily as they can reflect whore for 10. Bubble/stoneflesh. Shieldstun over and over. Writhe stack. The rule is as it is because it's the best feasible option.

It certainly helps. Honestly, if you want to talk "fairness," Eventru usually drifts in the opposite direction....but that's off topic really.
edit: Yes, Narsrim. That has happened to me. That's just the way the cookie crumbles in battlechess.

Yes, last time I won it. Against Rika. Have you ever played battlechess?
Unknown2009-04-08 01:38:05
Attacker should always win, but perhaps make it so attacker has to take aggressive action every x seconds?
Agree with the outdoor room suggestion and Xenthos' moving-into-check thing.

There are two rooms. How does Soulless grant you automatic win if you can just hop into the other room to avoid it?

Because he was responding to the idea of making a carcer-like effect to stop running.
