Learn to dual box, is quite fun once you get the hang of it.
I've dual-boxed a Mage and a Warlock together, very fun. I need to work more on those two sometime.

Easy, or free? 'Cus I don't know any way of getting one besides paying the $20ish, which I guess is easy.
@Gregori: Yeah, totally going to start paying for two accounts when I can't even afford to play 1 year round.

Dual box? Psh. There's at least a couple guys that used to run Karazhan by themselves, ten-boxing.

I'm having trouble levelling one character, crazy crazy people. We should move this to the old WoW thread though!

They do sort of do something like that which is the battle chests.
Yeah, but the Battle Chest is $35, and WotLK is around $15, I believe. So currently the buy-in is $50 + an upcoming $40 for Cataclysm.
An expansion for a six-year-old game that costs $40... definitely an industry first. On the other hand, they're revamping the old zones and content to not be useless anymore, so that's good for those who enjoy WoW.

Hmm, well I've always seen teh Battle Chests costing about 25$. :S

It is the 10 day trial, which you can update to the retail version. So no having to buy a new box!

You still have to pay to upgrade to a real account, regardless of whether you buy a box or not, which is like $20 or so. People seem to keep overlooking that. <,<
@Felicia:The BattleChest and WotLK are both $40 in the Blizzard store. I couldn't find either for much less then that from anything non-shady looking.
Felicia2010-05-03 16:07:48
Well, if you buy the Battle Chest, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm new from Amazon, it will run you $112.67 before shipping costs.
Now, even if you can shave $10 off the Battle Chest and maybe $5 off WotLK buying them in brick-and-mortar stores, you're still looking at nearly a $100 buy-in.
However, usually the $20 cost of the base game includes a free month of playtime, so it's really only $5 net cost, online purchase or otherwise. If you can get the base game in a brick-and-mortar store for $15, you're essentially getting it for free.
Even so, at a bare minimum, it will cost you $80 (not including monthly fees) to start playing WoW once Cataclysm hits, and most people who don't bargain-hunt will end up paying $90 or more.

<.< There's like no way you can get a new account without buying/upgrading it to retail.
And you could always go about playing Guild Wars, seeing as its only 40$ (last I saw) for the Trilogy and then like 10$ or something for GWEN.

If I remember correctly, it comes with a free month, though, so if you just pretend you're paying for that month, it's free.

To get the mount, would have to pay $20 to upgrade the trial account to a real one, which gets that trial account one free month. Then have to purchase an additional 2 months, so $30. One of those gets me a free month on my actual account, so paying about $35 to get the mount. And YEAH, that's too much.

Do only new accounts work for the promotion, or will reactivation of a dead one also work?

New accounts only. They have separate promotions for reactivating accounts.

It's 15 dollars for the first month with a 5 dollar activation fee. Every MMO does that.

From the upgrade page.

I'm assuming that those 30 days don't count towards the two months you need to buy for the mount. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong. =p

The activation fee is the same as paying for a boxed copy of the game though. You don't have to pay the fee if you buy a hard copy.

Lehki2010-05-03 23:40:11
This has been going on too long, let's leave it at you have to pay roughly $35 dollars if you wanted to just make an account in order to get the mount, and that's more then I'm going to pay, and drop it. =p
