A, what's a toon?
B. It shouldn't make a big difference if the game was good
Orc, Warrior (obivously horde)

There are wrong ways to make warriors for levelling. My first character was a tauren druid. I made the painful mistake of levelling with my character specced as a restoration druid. With a warrior, you can run around with a one-handed weapon and a shield and spec into protection and never, ever, ever make any progress worth mentioning while you're watching mages and hunters blow stuff up en masse.
Diamondais2009-04-12 07:49:29
There are just parts and combinations of classes and areas that aren't fun.
edit: A toon, or twink as i hear it more often is an alt.

Two separate beasts.
A toon is a character. They all look like cartoons.
A twink is an unnatural low-level PvP character, like the level 19 or 29 rogues that kill you faster than you can cry on /bg.

Oh man, I just got back into WoW too. I'm finally leveling a Mage because I never got around to it before.
Are we all conglomerating together?

Folks who complain about levelling, understand that your first character that you level with move slower then a snail on fly paper. That's why you buddy up with one of us that knows how to put you up to level 10 in a half hours work.
The key is efficiency and knowing where to go. Something first-timers don't have.

You could, alternatively, find one of those free leveling guides and use one of those.
Or, the most efficient way, if you have NEVER played before and need to make an account, is to do the Recruit-A-Friend for 3x experience.

I have a problem with paying people (i.e game companies) for the opportunity to grind (i.e. playing it'self isn't fun, just a means to some later point that -might- be fun)
I have no problem with taking a long time to level up if the act of leveling up was something that was enjoyable. (but running for 5 minutes, is not enjoyable)

I dunno. Even though I've played the game from 1-80 before, I find leveling a Mage enjoyable only because I've played a Warrior and a Rogue, and it's a completely different style of play than what I'm used to. I even told myself not to fund this new character in anyway (further facilitating this by rolling on a different server) and, despite the slower speed, I find it still enjoyable.

WoW levelling is a billion times better than Lusternian levelling. If you can even vaguely tolerate IRE grinds, WoW will be beautiful. Blizzard does PvE way, way, way better than IRE. It's not as good at PvP or facilitating RP, although WoW PvP isn't bad, it's just not as good. The RP really is as bad as their reputation says it is, though.

Daganev were you doing the quests as you received them or something? The typical setup is 5-15 quests from a "hub", then a travel quest that moves you to the next "hub." The only thing I could think of, knowing the orc starting area like I do, is that you took the travel quests and did them as you got them, rather than doing all the quests right there. Off the top of my head the orc starting point has: Gather lumber, wake sleeping peons, kill boars, grab fruit, kill snakes, get a venom, get an antidote, kill cultists in a cave, kill head cultist... More probably. Those are all just right at the area you plop into as you start out. Then you get a travel quest to a shore village of trolls.

Those were fine, the first time I got annoyed at the traveling was with the shaman in the thunderlizard canyon then to skull rock, then back again and then just traveling around the main horde city (there's just so much empty unused space) And then all the quests that took me from one end of the barrens to another. It wasn't until level 10 or 11 that the traveling bugged me.
I just got the trial version of Warhammer online, and they do it much better. (though lag during scenarios is a big pain in the but and I need to figure out whats going on with that)
kiriwe2009-04-13 22:48:20
The Barrens is just a huge place. Questing there is a pain in the butt simply because of the vast size of it.
If you get a real copy of Wow, and the BC expansion, the Blood Elf starting area is much more compact, and you can get to level 20 there.

No, I've tried wow 3 times now. Last time I tried was some 2 years ago or so, and I was reminded of my frustration back then too.
WOW still holds by the Time == Merit formula which I thought was recognized as being faulty at the last non-sucky E3

What she actually said is that you happened to pick the most painful starting option that exists in WoW. Time spent in that particular starting area is less rewarding than time spent other places. Barrens is horrible. Horrible enough to have its own t-shirt. It's unfortunate that pretty much all of the Horde plays there too.
Diamondais2009-04-14 04:56:36
The trailer for the new content was released.
Desitrus2009-04-14 15:12:25
It's rather sad that it will all be crushed by over 100 guilds on opening day. I remember when we were the first horde nef kill and it was quite some time after the release of BWL. Pine4OldDays.

If you were commited we would all make new chars on a specific server, and all level up together.
I would be up for it. So many trades I want to try out , I already have a herbalist 300 and alchmey 300 and a newb fire mage with engineering.
Xavius2009-04-29 16:17:57
Ok, let's see if there's people for this and just get it done.
If you are interested and currently have a subscription or are very willing to get one soon, post if you would rather play Alliance or Horde or on a low-medium or a medium-high population server.
A low population server usually has lower auction house prices and allows for easier solo levelling. A high population server has more selection in the auction house and makes it easier to get a group outside the guild. Both extremes are pretty pointless, but there's a greyscale in the middle that comes down to preference.
I'll go first: Horde, low pop.
