My point was that he can't really harp on someone asking for a Wolf Totem nerf because it's an equally viable solution to the problem. Absolute immunities have been on the decline, and I don't see why it's so sinful to go that route versus the other.
I'd actually say that nerfing wolf totem will do nothing to address fearaura. Now everyone gets equally moved around, instead of everyone equally having a chance (if you go with my solution) to avoid it.
That sounds like fun group combat.

Thanks for adding absolutely nothing to the discussion. We need more unbiased individuals like you when discussing balance.
Just to state, this thread isn't about nerfing wolf. For moi, at least. Sojiro's delay idea might be alright, but I'm not so sure. Just seems that the best route would be to change fearaura to force movement to any enemy, which would put all ascendants on par with others, when fighting with their allies.
Tael2009-04-22 02:39:48
I don't see what the obsession is with making sure that each org has each others skills, or wanting to nerf each others advantages because one side has veiled jealousy (which I honestly think is the driving motivation behind most of it)
I want to point out that a similar argument has been pointed for Laetitia in Rituals repeatedly when it comes to the City Skills vs Commune skills argument. The solution to it? Give Bards roulade. You can argue that City Bards now have Laetitia AND Roulade.
I would support Shuyin's idea for Fearaura. Either that, or my proposal would be just for it to give a random Phobia like the Telepathy ability. Agoraphobia, Shyness, Fear. Doing that would still allow Fearaura to be useful for both cities and communes, without having to throw in veiled attempts to get Wolf Totem nerfed.
Either that or shorten Rubeus's eq time.

Tael, ascendants have the same special skillset. Fearaura shouldn't be more annoying for cities than for communes. Not sure what you're on about, sweetie. Not trying to nerf wolf. You forest players sure are objective.
Narsrim2009-04-22 02:42:11
Can't you enchant roulade on horns now?

I disagree.
Some races have fire weakness, some have resistances! Fire attacks are more annoying to others! Just like a Bard with Roulade/Laetitia is more annoying to debate.
In any case, I'm not objecting that Fearaura could use a tweak. Though no skills need to be nerfed as a justification to do so.
The implications of some of the posts in this thread stink with wanting to nerf wolf as well.

Tael, what impact on group combat does fire resistance have? How is that relevant to fearaura?

You're missing my point. My example was showing that some skills are more annoying to one party than they are to another party. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Though if you want to argue on the impact that Fearaura has on groups, I can bring up Currents.
Point is, each organization has their set advantages and disadvantages in groups. Do I think this should change? No. Every organization shouldn't be subjected to a similar molding. That just makes the game bland and uninteresting. Having been a Spiritsinger, I can say that Fearaura is annoying but not as debilitating as some of you make it out to be. I say demesne effects with Currents is -far- more annoying.

Your point is irrelevant. You're arguing semantics. Focus on the issue here. Fearaura is strong in groups. Ascendants, by design, are to assist their allies and mostly in group situations. Communes having 100% resistance to this ability gives them an extreme advantage. The answer is not necessarily to nerf wolf, but to change fearaura.

Ok, bring up currents. It's protected by protection scroll. How is that a major issue? It's no more impacting than Treelife.

Nevermind that there's no meld requirement for an ascendant to use fearaura. It's a mere 200 essence. I'd love to see an Aquamancer whoring currents on ETHEREAL. Oh wait, they can't.

Which is what is being proposed, though some of the posts in this thread are implicating that the solution is to nerf Wolf.

Sojiro's idea is terrible and would only hit newbies ever. Unless I misunderstood something about it. It really needs no change, but the other ideas like fearauras cancelling each other out or it being strippable at least take effort.
EDIT: Ok, people keep saying it's good so maybe I did misunderstand something...
EDIT: Even on rereading it seems terrible compared to basic fear enchant that everyone can use
