Sojiro's idea is terrible and would only hit newbies ever. Unless I misunderstood something about it. It really needs no change, but the other ideas like fearauras cancelling each other out or it being strippable at least take effort.
Then I want currents changed back to not being protected by protection scroll because the entire premise for nerfing it was because it created mass movement in group, which made it impossible for the opposing party to stay together. The same goes for Treelife.
You can strip my currents too. It's called taint/forest.

When did you become soft-spoken and sweet? It's kinda disturbing and making me feel bad. It's wrong to flame the gentle souls.
I hold nothing but love for Malicia. I know that deep down.. She hopefully feels the same.
It's why I sit outside her house everynight.. Twiddling my thumbs. Hoping that she'll open a nearby window.

If only currents were at all comparable to fear in that it didn't work while they were hindered or attacking/otherwise doing anything, everyone had taint/forest and could do it in every room, and compose was "strippable" like protection scroll.

Hm? People sure are defensive on this thread. If you look at the original suggestions, none of the listed three mention a nerf to wolf totem (though I could argue that such a change would not be entirely unreasonable considering the move has been to reduce immunities)...they're geared towards having everyone be moved equally by fearaura as opposed to still requiring those without wolf totem to compose (albeit at a delayed rate), in conditions where every command is important, immunity will come out far ahead. By making it so everyone is hit equally, that issue is avoided entirely. The forced movement suggestion seems best, really.

So...
Is the problem fearaura or wolf totem? You guys are kind of jumping all over the place.

Probably both, but I don't know that Wolf should get re-evaluated to make it fit fearaura as much as Wolf should get re-evaluated in general and fearaura revamped to be less def-dependent.
Xenthos2009-04-22 03:10:20
What I'm getting from Nydekion is that he wants FearAura to be even more powerful. By hitting through Wolf and Rubeus.

It's the two used in combination. I'm really not understanding why this is so hard to digest. While it's likely a solution will only address one or the other, the problem is that fear aura provides a hefty advantage, which wolf totem grants absolute immunity. Therefore, it provides exceptional leverage in group combat to one party versus the other when fear aura should have the same relative viability given it's from a general skillset.
=====+=====
In a city vs. city situation, both parties have to deal with getting split up so the advantage tends to even itself out. In a city vs. commune situation, communes get a huge bonus. As this stems from a generalized skill, Malicia feels it should be addressed by fixing fear aura.
Nydekion2009-04-22 03:13:51
Well, it wouldn't necessarily be more powerful straight off, since you'd have summon resistances to contend with. What it would do, however, is make it so everyone is equally affected by it...which is the more desirable trait.
Unknown2009-04-22 03:31:46
Seems like your problem is wolf then, a change to that will mean that you won't need to change fearaura afterall.
I propose that wolf only give 50% immunity to fear, but it will also give us the ability to HOWL (target), giving them various phobias. It will also be on its own balance.

As you already get Scent, I think that's excessive. We're not talking about transcendent level skills here. We're talking about novice skills. I personally love that you think you should get options like hypochondria (which is a phobia), on its own balance, as a novice skill too. Cute!
Unknown2009-04-22 03:56:26
I think wolf could also use a move called Jawlock in addition to that, if anything, which will grab an enemy limb and keep them from leaving the room/using that limb, the cure is to writhe, a writhe time like truss sounds fair, IMO.
I'm casting forum fearaura, splitting up the topics like crazy. We should forum compose.

Shuyin's idea is the same as mine from months ago
Fear with a delay would be great. Personally I think more passive afflictions, even if they are phobias, will just be a major pain in the butt. Just wait until people start ranting about passive vestiphobia and lost all their crap on Celestia/Nil/Faethorn

But seriously, changing one will address the other. You don't -need- to change both, you guys just want to.
Malarious2009-04-22 04:19:40
-Fearaura is excessive and can be pretty evenly agreed on through the thread.
-Those without wolf totem are stating just how powerful 100% fear immunity is.
Both are intertwined, even if you nerf fearaura as it should be you still have the issue that totems would entirely shrug it.
Bring Wolf down to a % and give fearaura actual fear aff, not instafear
P.S. THIS is why wolf is awesome
You snort and snuffle at the air, sensing through the ridiculous nose upon your
face the faint traces of others in the surrounding area.
You make out the scent of Cronnacht coming from putrefied glen.
You make out the scent of Tau coming from a dank stockroom.
You make out the scent of Crek coming from a stone bridge.
You make out the scent of Shuyin coming from putrefied glen.
You make out the scent of Kirovera coming from mystic laboratory.
You make out the scent of Astraea coming from the Stables of the Wyrden Thorn.
You make out the scent of Janalon coming from a dank stockroom.
You make out the scent of Nienla coming from the Stables of the Wyrden Thorn.
You make out the scent of Larien coming from before the Master Ravenwood Tree.
You make out the scent of Estwald coming from narrowing passage.

Thanks for adding absolutely nothing to the discussion. We need more unbiased individuals like you when discussing balance.
Considering I didn't give an opinion on the subject itself, I gave an observation on the timing of the thread, it had nothing at all to do with bias.
Let me elaborate a little, so your completely well known unbiased, balance seeking self can better understand.
This skill has been around for a year, possibly more. Until recently this skill wasn't on the Celest jihad agenda. Why is it now? What changed?
Well if we take recent events into account the following has changed: Celest (read: Narsrim and Talkan) is fighting Glomdoring more and is facing more ascendants there with fearaura being used against them. More recently it is becoming tense between Celest and Serenwilde with the possibility of more fighting going on. Now, a year later, after Celest has happily used fearaura alongside Serenwilde, it is an issue.
So yes, the timing is interesting on this thread.
As for the changes, I tried to find some reasonable excuse for why you would suggest rad to replace it and I couldn't come up with a thing. Rad is probably the worst possible solution. At least with fear you don't go running away if you are off balance. Rad ignores balance. So yes, your size 25 super skilled people will be likely to ignore the effect, but everyone else will be split off from the group whether they have balance or not. Though even with fearaura, as it is, this was the case anyways, that the only time people got split off is on the lucky timing of them being on balance at the same time as it ticked, with their fear immunity dropping at the same time.
If any solution for fearaura is being called for here then Shuyin's solution is the only one to make any sense.
Also to add to Shuyin's wolf requests. Wolf should get FLEAS, kind of like itching, only worse.

Yawn. Wrong, detective.
Glom and Celest have been having little tiffs for awhile. Sidd isn't the first Glom ascendant. Xenthos used fear against Celest while helping Mags in Domoth skirmishes long ago while he himself was immune to it. Kill the drama. I like Malarious' post. As he stated, the only reason wolf was mentioned is to explain why it made fearaura a tad unfair for the cities to deal with. If you could put aside your RL druid, you'd understand the argument some. All you're worried about is the prospect that someone might nerf another one of your precious abilities.
Just because I don't go crying on forums about every little thing, you can presume to know my motives for a thread or whether or not I've voiced a complaint about fearaura before? Are you in any ooc clans with me in Lusternia? Don't think so.
And just for your information, just because it annoys me that you think you know everything, Glom and Celest entered into a cease-fire not long ago. This thread has nothing to do with any IC war.
And with that, I'm off to work.
Edit: And if rad moves a target when they're off balance, that should be changed. Either way, making it so fearaura affects everyone evenly is the way to go.

Oh, come on. Aison's not only not in the same league as Revan, she's not playing the same sport as him. Ixion would've been a way better choice.
