It seems like getting Royalty prestige is generally a joke. Anyone with a full set of combat enchantments has enough bling to make Mr. T pity them, so what's the point of having top-tier prestige end there? Seems like it'd be more exciting to have stylish clothing factor in more, and maybe force players to choose between their greatrobes/armor and an edge in influence. It'd give tailors more incentive to make things besides greatrobes, and influencers more incentive to wear them. I'd think maybe halving jewelry's effect and boosting clothing's effect of prestige would make for a more realistic prestige system.
That being said, any thoughts on people being able to wear clothes under greatrobes? Seems like I'd be able to fit a pair of pants under there at least (I know in the beginning they changed it because people were wearing chain armor + greatrobes, but it seems like they could just flag armor as something that you can't wear a greatrobe over).

I respectfully disagree. Influencing shouldn't have to be a chore; the fact that getting the top prestige is easy gives everybody an equal opportunity to influence should they invest in it.
Tailoring has its own uses for charity influencing that jewelry cannot help with. That alone is more than a big enough bonus for tailoring/influencing synergy imo, since charity is where the real money is at.
EDIT: Also, clothing has an already pretty significant impact on prestige. No need to nerf jewelry prestige. I can get royalty with clothing alone.

It just seems strange that a day's bashing can make me look like royalty through lots of rings + a crown, and especially weird that any combatant worth his salt instantly looks like high-born nobility in the eyes of denizens. It currently takes a bit more effort to get to royalty with clothing, doesn't it? All I'm saying is that I look at the shops, see all these snazzy clothing designs, but don't really see a point in buying them since A) they'll be lost amidst the jewelry spam in my description, and They're kinda moot where influence is concerned. I'd love to go shopping for enough clothing to raise my prestige above what my basic combat enchantments already provide (but there's nowhere to go past Royalty, so it's kinda pointless).

Any combatant worth his salt can eat any influencable denizen in the game for breakfeast without breaking a sweat, arm wrestle five bears at once, and teleport around punting people into buildings. If someone who can do that said "You're pretty/strong looking/pathetic/about to be abducted by secret agents" to you, chances are you would take them seriously. And if they said "I'm poor. Give me a dollar so I can get lunch" you would not beleive that because they look like they could lift a whale out of the ocean and cook it with heat ray vision for lunch.

Isn't a crown like the definition of looking like royalty?
That said, I agree, its too easy to get really high prestige.
I think prestige should be based on matching sets of clothing etc.

That would be hard to code, or at least I'd think it'd be.

Not that hard, just a complete rewrite of tailoring so that there is a new "Set" variable that tells you what set some clothing belongs to

I have a feeling that Estarra sometimes says something similar to the coders, and while the coder types back that he'll get right on it, he's actually screaming at his monitor.

Priceless but true.
