Actually I get my brooch-enchanted stuff just fine, and I'd like to think I'm fairly active. Though there is concern about availability yes.
Well.....
I hate you.

Wall leaping, run up the wall kick off to the other side and repeat.

If it's high enough for warriors to Tee your head off, you could reasonably say that you jump up, slam your shovel/stake/cudgel/sword/bubblegum in the ground, then use it as leverage to pull yourself out.

Apparently, all we need is licorice jellybeans to make this work.

I'd really like to see Environment made more useful, too (as I would a number of skills lacking abilities). However, I'm confused why it should take power AND have a delay, even if it does get you out with a broken leg or two. Tumble gets you out of a lot of situations and it doesn't require power. Most other power abilities are instant and that's pretty much why they cost power!
Lendren2009-06-09 12:25:57
Pogo sticks make no sense. It should be Inspector Gadget spring-shoes!
....everyone carries a shovel? I don't think I know anyone who does and the shovels I stock at the Fifth barely sell. Of course, if this goes in, everyone certainly will.

I believe we should call it Celina, because she has hopped more things than normal people should.
Kelysa2009-06-09 14:53:15
Erf please make this environment.
Pitvault?
I dunno, the idea of requiring a spike isn't bad.

What is it about pits that makes this necessary? I remember hearing someone complain about pits + behead, but that's all.
Kelysa2009-06-09 15:06:35
well, group applications too, it's pretty easy for a pit to just = death to anyone who falls into it, no matter what. Can be impossible to get out.
Shiri2009-06-09 15:09:00
Requiring either a spike or shovel isn't bad. Far from everyone carries a shovel as Lendren said, but it's not like doing so is a problem if we have to.

I think it would be pretty fitting that since we require our trackers to spend so much gold on materials for the crap that they make, that it require a person to spend some gold on material to get out of a pit.

AB ENVIRONMENT PILEOGOLD
DUMP GOLD
Cost: 1000 gold
By upending your coin curse and dumping a pile of gold on the ground, you can rapidly scramble up it and out of a tracker's pit. They won't even be sorry to have lost you!

Pit is one of the signature skills of trackers and making it too easy would be too great a downgrade. This is meant as a last ditch effort to address certain instances where someone may find it is just too darn hard to get out of a pit, not as an instant and easy escape to render pit useless. Of course, we'd monitor how it's working and adjust as necessary.

This, and "rockclimbing" are my two favorite suggestions so far.

Danger Will Robinson! Krin has said something funny that makes sense!
If a skill is put out, I think acrobats should have a bonus to it, and maybe size should matter, either smaller = able to scramble up the walls faster, or larger = ... well, obviously able to get out faster.
Casilu2009-06-12 23:06:44
Why not modify highjump in acrobatics to do this and put a version that costs one or two power in environment or combat or something? (Keep the acrobatics version free, of course.)
Unknown2009-06-13 00:26:02
I propose that since combat is balanced around Demi's ANYWAY, you just make it so if you're size 25, your foot gets trapped in the pit, and the rest of you is fine.
(Seriously, size twenty five means that we have people walking around that are 12 and a half feet tall. LOTS of people. What's a 7 foot pit going to do to them?)

I like the idea of a Prince of Persia-style walljump.
You pause for a moment, preparing yourself for a dazzling acrobatic feat.
You spring suddenly into action, jumping towards one of the walls of the pit, then push off of it with superhuman dexterity to leap to the opposite side before scrambling up the pit's edge and hoisting yourself out.
(Of course, doing this with no legs doesn't make much sense, but then again, neither do most acrobatic maneuvers.)

I mangiggle at some of the images of horribly afflicted people tumbling. I have...one arm, no legs, paralysis, and I'm so drunk that I yell random stuff like "I like cheese!" By the gods, I can still vault stone walls.
Anyways, if it's using power, couldn't you, like, blast out one wall of the pit and escape through the gash?
