Curious, why was the Real Life Rants thread deleted? As far as I could tell, rants posted there didn't incite trolling. Far from it really, more along the lines of inciting sympathy.

I am fine with the loss of the Idiots and Rants section. I think we can still do some of the stuff we used to, but as long as moderation keeps up. I see no harm in a rant like "Forging ate my soul! I've been at it for 3 weeks!" or "Another late raid, I died again!". Things I was not okay with were the times people (and I include myself in this from time to time) basically ripped into each other with nasty personal attacks that went unnoticed by moderators. If that is gone, I think we can still get out our little frustrations.

I know. I don't get it either. And Eventru won't answer my question either.

Well, one the plus side, with no rants section the admin can grief Celest all they want and not have to listen to their incessant whining

Eventru, I see you thre! Answer my question, please? If it's no, that's fine, I'll make individual threads each time I want to complain about something sucky that happens IRL (and everyone else will too) and there'll be hundreds of such tiny threads. But I'm waiting on your response so I can either do that or make a general 'my life sucks right now' thread. I don't wanna break the rules or get warned or cause some catastrophe that shuts the forums down (I'm already going to be worried that every post I make is going to do that now).
Please answer my question.
Please answer my question.
I'm not really sure honestly. You're welcome to make a general 'my life sucks right now' and if we come to the decision that it's unfitting or what have you we can delete it. And if you guys start hijacking this thread and turning it into your lack of rants (or shall I say continue) I can start deleting those posts.
I think if everyone takes a deep breath and chills, they'll find these changes are for the best.

You know, it could be worse.
I was reading the Achaea forums the other day, and Maya chewed out some people who were griefing. These people griefed people WHO HAD BEEN GRIEFING THEM FOR IRL MONTHS OR MORE and made a few of them leave the game.
So Maya tells them that they shouldn't grief, gives them no reason for why not (no rule against it, and so on) and drops these perfectly fine but tired of being griefed for so long people into a no-exit room with a totem tuned against them, with a handful of arti'd up enemies attacking them.
I laughed. Lusternia is SO much better.

I think this is the point where the admin needs to take a step back and seriously consider what impact that will have on the REST of the playerbase.
Also, Eventru, telling people that something is for the best NEVER works. That just makes people irritated and become convinced that you're out to get them

I'm of the opinion that Lusternia did just fine before we had forums, and that far too much that should be handled in-game is being carried out on the forums. So many interesting opportunities for roleplay are lost on acidic bickering matches on the forums, in my opinion, anyways.
Lusternia had forums before Lusternia had a beta.
Anyways, yeah, whatever. No more politics/religion threads is probably going to actually be a bigger change than anything else, and that's not a big change. I think most people are overreacting. And, if the people I think are overreacting turn out to be right, then unofficial forums will take their place. Verithrax's never really took off because there never was much of a need. If the admins/mod(s) make a real need for a better forum, then there will be one.
It's all going to be ok.

I believe the issues mentioned in the OP came up because of the Achaea forums (although I can't say anything about Imperian or Aetolia). During the time I played Lusternia and was a part of this forums community, I found the atmosphere quite relaxed and welcoming. Nowadays I don't follow these forums (the activity here is very game-centered, so it makes little sense to remain on the forums if one is not active in the game), but unless they've changed drastically (and the tone of this thread tells me they haven't) you folks are fine, nothing really needed to be changed over here IMO. The problem lies elsewhere.
Shiri2009-06-13 02:51:54
We easily have the least aggro community between ourselves, Imperian and Achaea (not sure about Aet), but it's not like we don't get some catfights in the rants section now and then, typically as the result of some "XYZ sucks" "no it's fine" discussion. Relatedly, all our drama for the people who like that sort of thing is going to come out of the combat subforum, the main other place these kinds of arguments happen, since the logs section is about 60% "rants with nogfx links."

We should all start not playing ToP while we can.

There's a place for ranting and a place for constructive criticism.
Basically this is pretty entertaining, and I say that as one of the "omgz forum trolls". A bad move, but entertaining.

I think Estarra is, in so many words, telling us we can still rant...but not endlessly flame and insult and call it a rant, which is what the idiots subforum has become.
As someone who has admitted to being prickly and bitchy, I think Estarra fully understands to need to vent frustrations and anger, as long as it's not in a toxic, thinly veiled "I'm technically following the rules" sort of way. (which I admit to doing)

Noola, you of all people have absolutely nothing to worry about.
That said, I didn't even notice Idiots! was gone. It really was so bad that I avoided it like the plague. If someone wanted me to read a post in Idiots! they had to provide me with a link because I refused to wade through that lake of bile. I blinked a bit when I couldn't find RL LoR since I have a few thoughts that I thought merited posting there, but aside from that.... I wouldn't have even known anything had changed if I hadn't opened this thread.
Nyir2009-06-13 09:32:42
I'm a bit confused. Achaea's forums are easily the worst of all of IRE's, but they still have their "Inferno" subforum (their equivalent to our Idiots! one), as well as their subforum devoted entirely to political things. Have they just not gotten around to removing both, or did we just interpret an order from on high to mean we need to remove ours, and they are interpreting it differently?
Jigan2009-06-13 09:35:54
In notation to forums.
I feel that they are somewhat needed. They help point things out and aid others in finding and arranging things. Not to mention helps keep certain OOC things OOC. I do not need 3 Super OOC Clans filled with 50 people all talking at once just so I can have a discussion with others. I also do not need to repeat myself four times.
However, I understand what is generally being said. Keeping OOC OOC, and keeping flaming down. However, we do need a place to put things related to Lusternia, but not in Lusternia.

Like scripts, most especially combat systems! I still remember the days of old when people were hawking their combat systems on the market channel in Achaea because there was no other place suitable for it. Not really wanting to return to that, personally.
Kiradawea2009-06-13 11:13:58
I'm in agreement to the removal of the idiots subsection and the rants. If they could have just been used as a place where you could jump in and say "I hate trueheal/lich/choke/gore" and leave it at that, then it would be fine, but that wasn't how it was used. It seemed to me that people had an express desire to invalidate the rants of the other person, for whatever reason they had. This led to frustration and bickering, and while these forums are by no means horrible, it isn't a heaven on earth like a forum can be. It's amazing how positive and negative influence works. Rants make more rants and raves make more raves, so I think that by removing the rants, it becomes easier to enjoy what you have, because after you've cooled down you realize "hey, that was actually sorta fun" or "hey, I learned something" or "hey, these things happen. No need to stew over em".
