A friend of mine who is on a fixed income, is a bit of an iconoclast, and had a computer virus infect him, asked for help. I suggested since he just needs to use a web browser and word processing software to use Ubuntu.

He loves it and never looked back.

A luddite you mean?
Shiri2011-09-13 18:09:57
I don't think linux is compatible with luddites.

Shiri's avatar looks like it has Mushrooms for Eyes.

It's meant to be puppydog eyes. I forgot where I got it though, it just happened to be in my images folder on Cirno Day and looked cute enough to qualify.

It's okay so far. Just still weird.

The only reason I went right to Ubuntu over other Linux options was because Kayte kept mentioning how good it was. On the bright side, I have yet to have any problems. (Other than having a hard time getting my favorite IRC client installed.)

Without my laptop, there's not much reason to login for more than a few minutes these days. Only when I'm watching deaths, possible convos and the little bit of testing I can do keeps me logged in for longer than 15 minutes.

I just wanted to mention that for more people now, Linux, or at least non-Windows OS are picking up, thanks to iPhone/iPad, Android, and things like Ubuntu.

Heck, Windows is getting a radical makeover with the new Metro look. http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2...omputingPR.mspx I think people will be getting used to more changes in the general UI Windows and the Mac started in the late 80s.

(I also predict 10 years from now IRE games will all be web based front-ends and the core engine will have an API layer over some sort of web-sockets/HTML5/Json interface, and Telnet may become a thing of the past, if the trends have any say).

I think Miss Philippines was much prettier than Miss Angola........

Have a taste for the asian persuasion Stangmar?
Razenth2011-09-14 00:06:23
A touch of yellow fever?
Stangmar2011-09-14 02:41:46
Not really, I generally don't go for asians. But after 2 years in the Philippines, it's not hard to notice how beautiful filipinas are. Maybe it's because of the slight blend of spanish descent.

I love Ubuntu. I have also used Slax, Redhat and Fedora, as well as a few other Ubuntu derivatives. Ubuntu 10.04 was my preferred. Can't remember what the name of the new is right now... But I managed to crash 11 in about two hours and downgraded. Mushclient is a pain to install... I used virtualbox to run it. I did have it working well with Wine though.

Failed to predict outcome of both Design Star and America's Got Talent. More disappointed about the former than the latter, but not actually broken up about either. biggrin.gif

Enough lame reality TV. Bring on Community and Archer and, oh I don't know. Modern Family?

It's absolutely lovely that my father is so concerned about my sleep schedule that he's set the router to disable the internet at midnight. And of course it fills my heart with admiration for you when I am unable to continue my search for a job or blow off steam with people who are only around then. Thanks so much.
Unknown2011-09-15 12:02:37
Get a pocket router and just run through that while the other router is causing problems.
Unknown2011-09-17 00:09:51
Trying set up Windows 7 to my own liking. Darn junctions.

Good luck with the router Maellio.

Today, I had a customer call in over some charges that he had called in earlier about. The notes stated that he had been explained that the charges were legitimate. He told ME that he didn't make the charges. I told him that there was no way of telling if he had made them or not. He then suggested that his phone was hacked and someone used it to make text messages. I again told him that wasn't possible. Then he told me his phone was lost, and that he had later found it. I inquired as to why he didn't report. He said because someone had returned it soon after. During this call, he told me I was a dumb b censor.gif, a stupid broad, a f censor.gif b censor.gif as well as a pothead who was on drugs...and a whole bunch of other things. I didn't respond to it in any manner other than to remind him that the charges were legitimate. He then hung up.

Normally, someone calls me names... whatever. But geez.
