All-essays test in my least favorite subject today. Two tests in other classes also today, but not essays, so I can deal.
Pardon me, I'm going to go study instead of going to my first class...

I don't know you in the game, but I had a dream about you last night. Me and Romero were guarding Celestia (don't ask) and you raided, and we had to fight you off.
Dunno why or how, but apparently you're one tough cookie.

As for my dissatisfaction: Today I was feeling ADVENTUROUS and decided to try to get a white chocolate latte from the coffee machine on campus! But...it just gave me a cup of hot water...

I was on the awesome aethership hunt, kind of like my first one, and I messed it up. I feel pretty bad.

They never posted the news on the Lusternia web page where I won first place in the Bardics, but they posted the month before, and the month after. /sadface

I've never gotten a post either! But they seem to be getting more consistent.

So, I finally caved. I normally don't like paying $60 for games, but I really, really wanted Final Fantasy XIII. So, I went to the store and bought it, getting super excited on the way home that I'm finally going to be able to play it.
When I return, I'm greeted by the Red Ring of Death on my Xbox.

oh no! I've got a majorly overpowered intercooler to try and keep that from happening on mine... it's my biggest complaint about the xbox360... well, apart from giving Microsoft money.

How in Hell do you explain Lusternia to a potential "other"? (Pah, pipedream.)
I'm finding this exceptionally awkward, even for me.

There is no path that will not eventually lead to awkwardness. Even if you open well and they seem curious, it will eventually become uncomfortable.
Diamondais2010-03-13 16:51:21
It's just awkward, since I was lucky and had to explain it when there were only four orgs I basically just said it's text based, four organizations of different ideals basically want to kill someone or other, big evil god things, you might like it but you'll probably stick with wow.
Lehki2010-03-13 16:55:39
"It's a text based game. You throw letters at each other until somebody explodes into more letters."

or who knits. Since knitting seriously is not an inclusive hobby, and neither is mudding, but both allow for occasional conversation or tv watching whilst doing them.
It works for me and my wife.

"What? Oh, this is Lusternia, it's a little internet game I play."
"Well yeah, there aren't any pictures. Everything's text. It's a bit weired to get used to, but it's fun!"
"Maybe, but this is just as fun, and it's free"

You draw parallels to what people already know. Console RPGs or WoW are good starting points. If he/she seems interested, you explain the difference in the worlds.

Once while attempting to explain Lusternia to someone who asked me what I was doing, they asked me, "but how do you win?"
...when I told them that there isn't some set of criteria one must achieve to "win", they sort of gave me a look and told me I was wasting my time, then. Sigh.

Unfortunately this is well very common I think among all video games. I mean, I have a hard time explaining WoW to my mom, though I think she'd understand Lusternia more (played D&D). That'd probably be the easiest reference I think, is saying Lusternia is D&D-esque.
