being up late because somebody called me to talk about something really important, and all I want to do is chill the hell out and try to make my sickness go away.

Coming down an exit ramp after getting off the expressway and having just enough time to say "Oh s#!t" before the idiot coming down it the wrong way slams into me head on. Thank goodness after 15 years of never being used the airbags still worked and we only have bruises and soreness. But I loved that little car .

After nearly three weeks in the hospital after a massive heart attack, my mother got out yesterday. She is already wilfully disregarding everything the doctor recommended. This is hard
Ah, reminds me of my own mother who was so wilfull that, after her surgery to remove two cists on her ovaries , on the same day, she was already yelling at us, dispite being hooked up to a breathing machine.
My dissatisfaction: I'm currently suffering from an inexplicable back pain that suddenly kicked just as I left school, it wont go away and is making me quite grouchy.

Last tuesday night, I had a tooth ache that kept me up for a few hours. The next morning, tooth was still hurting, but meh. As the day went on however, pain was getting worse and was now my entire lower right jaw, so I decide to go to campus health clinic, to discover they closed about 5 minutes before I got there. Go back to dorm to try and work, but pain is too distracting to really concentrate, so take some Tylenol and try to take a nap. Wake up and my ear is hurting as well now. But my room mate is back and he has some ibuprofen so try taking that.
Poured myself a cup of milk to take with that, and I guess it worked well enough, except I ended up knocking the cup of milk off of my desk, and it landing directly on the fan vent on top of my computer. I opened it up and took some parts out to dry and clean them off, and when I put it back together, it won't even turn on. Don't know yet if it I just put some wire into the wrong place or if something is actually broken. So now I'm re-doing three different assignments from scratch. And my jaw is still sore.

More redundancies on the way, had one last year as well and found a letter today as I was tidying my desk for the redundancy round four years ago. This will make it 3 rounds of redundancy in a four year period and a reduction so far to the IT department from 14 to 10 while INCREASING the number of computers and services we have to support. Including managerial we have 220 computers and 30 printers each and lots of different software to support across 4 different sites. When I started I had to look after 10 servers, now we have 100 servers with more complex systems, ohh yes and 800 staff and over 10,000 students.
If they cut us again this year...
Ohh and apparently I have to be a OLAP cube expert by the summer because our Data department can't get a new system working properly...
Someone told me today I would be the last person they will get rid of, but I don't feel as sure! One month to go till we find out.

When I was in undergrad my school unwisely decided to do their own inhouse assessment of all programs and services on campus. They had a five number system: 5 = Keep this program and increase its funding, it is well worth it! 4 = Keep this program and increase its funding somewhat, 3 = Keep this program and keep its funding where it is, 2 = Keep the program, but cut its funding, staff, and faculty, and 1 = Get rid of it entirely. The review for IT was by far the best. It basically said, "We realize that IT is not equipped with the technology or staff it needs to effectively do its job, but it's not doing its job effectively, so we assign it a 2", which is of course, cut its staff and funding...

Sounds like my university, hmm.. keep the very good guy we brought in from the UK, who we have to sponsor.. or give it to someone else who does a subpar job and we're paying him the same.
Our systems screwed up more this year than last, but at least the other guy married a wonderful girl and got his residency all sorted out!

Ahhh, I've done that before a few times. Start writing at 10pm the night before its due in and only get it finished at 3pm. Rush off to get it printed then run to the office to hand it in. I'm waiting on one of those essays to come back at the moment

I'm the editor-in-chief of my university's student newspaper and have been for two years. During those two years, I've complied to all of the Associated Press guidelines, the Student Press Law Center's guidelines and our own newspaper bylaws. We haven't put a toe out of line, we haven't printed anything libelous or slanderous about anyone or anything on campus, we've generated a lot of student interest in journalism and I've essentially resurrected us from a pit of ridicule.
... now the student government is trying to censor its content, stipulate that the newspaper must provide free advertisement for student organizations and has made it impossible for me to pay my editors by reducing my wages line in next year's budget.
So basically, screw the government. Also, I was sent home from campus with "super mono." Grr.
