I tried asking one once and he wouldn't tell me. I started giving them flippant responses though, and that embarrasses them enough that they generally try to get it right after that. It'd make sense if it was just people from one org, but it's different people from different orgs and most times they're opposing orgs, so I think it's multiple different names that I'm getting mistells from. You may be right with the possible need to increase the amount needed for abbreviated tells though.
Funniest one I think I've gotten though was the guy (after several mistells) asked me how long I've been playing. I told him, "Oh, I played the violin all my life as a bard, but I still try to pick it up every now and again since becoming a Sentinel." ... I dont understand why he got angry at me

Telperion gets a lot.
Shaddus2010-04-19 23:08:52
Shaddus used to get a lot of mistells meant for Sha.
@ Meaha: Try snubbing the people who send you constant mistells. This will redirect the tells to the right person, hopefully.

Back when I first started playing I aliased over "Tel" to give me a #say Don't Tel, Tell."
Then they put in the config so that you can't do short-name-tells (you have to use Tell) and I promptly turned that on. I still have my alias though, for nostalgia-reasons.

heh I have sent Telperion soooo many miss tells with the tel (name) bit ><

Try asking them OOC to whom they meant to send the tell, with the qualification that you've been receiving a lot more mis-tells than usual lately.
I wonder how many people get frequent mis-tells? It may be worth suggesting an increase of 1 to the minimum number of characters needed for abbreviated tell addressees.

There's a collegium quest or two which requires a newbie to say "May I know my history teachers?" or something like that.

Never make a character whose name begins with "The" or "You" in an IRE game. Back on Aetolia, before they implemented the nametells option, my character (with a name starting "The") would get kicked off once every day or two by the sheer spam of someone pasting a log into something and missing.
About all I get in this one is the occasional "Pool." Apparently, people lean on the Pool of Stars a lot, and leave out the A.
Sylphas2010-04-20 01:40:16
I get a mistell every time someone forgets the A in SAY.

I'm so TIRED of getting mistells.. I've -never- gotten this many mistells! Argh... who is this other person who's name is strangely close to Mirai!?
I get mistells when people mean to PROBE something and miss. It gets frustrating getting tells that say "So and so tells you, '864524.'"

Also, back on the last topic, my character in Achaea's name started with "Ay." I used to get crazy amounts of mistells because people forgot the S in SAY. Got one once from Romeo and one from a God. o.O

A number, that's nothin'...this one time I accidentally told some other guy with an O name the word "bed" while I was poking through somewhere for a quest I was so embarrassed...

I get mistells all the time from people who SIP stuff and miss the P.
Casilu2010-04-20 06:12:18
I get Newbies casting spells.
Razenth2010-04-20 06:15:55
I wish I could say I get newbies messing up razes, but I don't.

I once got some guy who mistelled to me 3 times in a row with "Ansiri" (?????), then mistelled me AGAIN the next day with "Mxp." I was so confused. >< Was he using "ON MXP?"
Arimisia2010-04-20 14:08:00
Heh, I used to get mis-tells all the time. Since I first made Arimisia, an Ari has popped up and an Arimi and there used to be another that was really close to my character's name. I have been snubbed by people cause of this though it is rather funny now. Config nametells on is your friend if you are prone to mis-telling people. Also, Eventaru in game, during events, I can only imagine how many mistells he gets. miss spell Event as Even and boom, firing off a tell to him, have done that one more than a few occasion on an alt. Sorry!

Probably.
Unless you're a very advanced user, MXP doesn't appear to be good for anything but click-able exits, and who uses a mouse in Lusternia?

Sometimes I start up some clickin' action when my carpal tunnel starts deciding to be a jerk. You'd THINK this would just lead to me stopping being on the computer altogether, but, you know, whatevs. If it was that easy to pry myself from this machine I likely would not have developed that particular problem in the first place.
