I've never understood why guild leaders arrange for their successors in advance. Or maybe I'm just whining because no one seems interested in replacing me, if I decide I want to go too.

They usually don't, but the Cantors are so understaffed they have to make sure the position won't be left unfilled.

And I'm sure you would have figured it out without essentially making the decision for the rest of us. That's what elections are for, actually.

I didn't figure out jack. This is what happened from my viewpoint almost verbatim.
Day 1: Gm Says, "Hey. I want to quit my position, if I do will you contest?" I say yes.
Day 2: Gm says, "Hey. Champion would rather be GM and You'd make a good champion, would you contest for that instead?" I say, meh. Sure.
Day 3: Champion says, "Hey. Are you still planning on contesting for Champion so I can be GM?" ...Yes. Leave me the alone about it, geez.
Day 4: Today.

Oh, Cantors.
Xavius2010-02-09 02:32:08
Day 5: Pectus reads forums, decides to stay because she doesn't want the guild to implode under the weight of stupid and exodus.
Shaddus2010-02-09 02:32:51
The thing that pisses me off is that I don't want Champion. I did, but when I recently moved I had to downgrade to dialup. I can't be Champion on dialup
Xavius2010-02-09 02:33:32
Problem solved. Pectus, you're staying.

See original comment on pre-decided elections. Just throw your hat into the election you want to be a part of? Logic's funny that way.

I hate essays too. I really, really do. But apparently the GM has no say in how the guild is shaped and their only duty is the Council. To quote one person when I disagreed with that idea, 'if Zasha wants to make requirements including hopping on one foot, then that's unfortunately how it is.' HAVE FUN WITH YOUR ESSAYS.
That is... amusing.
Build your political leverage I know you can do it!
(that or come to Hallifax, although you probably have to write essays here too)

Actually, I was the one who put in the essay requirement and cut it down to three paragraphs.
You're welcome!

When I was Nihilist GM I ruled by fiat. If I wanted a rule added, it was added! If I wanted to withdraw several hundred thousand gold to furnish my office, no one dared complain! Then I left for Celest, and Morgfyre showed up a week later. What a fun month that was.
If they give you any guff, just wave your symbol in their direction and make some vague proclamations about Gorgulu.

That only works when you're a sociopathic megalomaniac. Other people have consciences. Hell, I was under the impression there were stringent fiats preventing people like you from ever assuming positions of power here or anywhere.

I didn't say Zasha put them in, or comment on the length of them though. Just that they did exist and likely aren't going anywhere.
