That has to be the most ridiculous price for a shop I've ever seen. No wonder Hallifax' shops are so poorly stocked.

The spider on page 213 (aka Shamara's Siggy) looked fake to me. It kinda looks like someone made a good spider glove. (Plus the way the legs curve makes them look like fingers, and there isn't much texture to its body...) I had to literally sit there and watch it for a few mins, until I realized that there were too many legs for it to be fingers...

Halli had a zerg and influenced a lot of denizens quickly. They deserve the village!

300k base price and another 7k yearly in taxes. You'll be hard pressed to make money with that as your base, and with Hallifax' wonky buildup that makes the city less accessible to non-citizens.
But it's all-right. We're still gonna make it into an awesome shop.
And the city is a funny thing. Usually we have around 5 or so Commoners (CR 1) around. It was just pure luck that, right before the revolt started, we had as many as four people with city rank above 1 around. I'm happy we finally got a village for comms.

That's actually an improvement. Originally it was 300k and 10k taxes yearly.

What the heck? That's nothing.
Glom's shops have sold for 1,000,000+ gold in auctions, and have had 7000 base taxes since they were created. You'll be fine, if you bother to stock it with anything.

I expected Lusternia to be a good MUD — otherwise, I wouldn't have begun playing it — but I have to say:
It's even better than I'd thought it would be. I'm floored by the quality of role-playing in particular (most of it, anyway), which rivals or exceeds what can be found in MUDs that tout enforced role-playing (or a "role-playing intensive" environment, et cetera) as a primary feature.
This is a very good thing from a practical perspective, too, since my mind should be made up well before that amazing sale on Lessons-only credits closes.

Both or one or the other? The problem with taxes over 5k is that it's practically impossible to make a profit, due to how many people give away their services for free.
Edit: Impossible is a bit harsh. But you need to sell a lot of stuff to turn over a profit. I had about 200 profit on an enchanted ring. That's 35 rings that need to be sold to just reach 0. Some things are just sold too cheaply too. Cube recharges that go for less than 20 gold is not something to compete with when powerstones go for 1500-2000 gold and you don't have gloves.

Xenthos doesn't know how to haggle, scoff. -paid 250k for both his Seren and Glom shops-

Hallifax's shops are set out in a manner that is ... not conducive to browsing, really. Glomdoring's are much better in that regard.

I'll give you that. But when I'm actively stocking my shop I can make 200,000+ in an IC year, heh. 7k should be extremely easy to pick up, assuming you branch out and don't stick to just one thing. And / or actually... try.
I mean, try stocking cube recharges.

Crazy talk. Shops net 5k even when you don't bother to properly stock them.

Some people are just lazy too, or don't care that much. I've seen cube charges double the price of a neighboring shop still sell for... whatever reason. Don't feel discouraged from trying anything!

I had trouble pricing my wares high enough for people to not want to buy them, heh.

I know, right? I was selling health refills at 275 for purely punitive reasons, and it didn't work. You even scolded me for it.

Lendren makes plenty on the Fifth despite being the most expensive shop in the commune, if his SS financial reports were to be believed. People don't browse or something, I dunno.
