Even as a new player, I've started to notice that finding stuff to hunt/influence can be quite difficult (as in, someone hasn't already Hoovered out the area).

I really don't know how MUDs manage to make viable hunting grounds scarce with, like, 60 people online. It's rather amazing, really.

If they're working with you to adjust things, have patience; it doesn't always happen over night. Especially with quest overhauls.
