All this Willy Wonka talk makes me wonder if Hallifax's cooking cartel has a food factory similar to Willy Wonka's.

Use redtint and yellowtint and be done.

For a pair of paintings? Geez, that's chump change. (We paid 3 million gold for three broken unusable ones, you guys can't find a few thousand for ones that work?)

I'm already the enchanter and painter. I just need em to pay me for my work for once. I'm tired of always doin' charity work.
They want it? Then they can pay for it.

Well we would, but the admins are all like, "Okay, cool, pay us 50 million gold to get the chocolate river up here and you'll be set", but alas, we can't afford that.

Academic papers and books have in fact been written about internet anonymity and its effects on behavior - even on MUDs in particular. Oh hi there Sherry Turkle!

I wrote a paper for one of my philosophy classes on this exact topic.

There's a Penny Arcade comic strip about that entitled "The Greater Internet Theory," but it has naughty words in it, so I can't link it.

Okay, you know what? There is NO reason to have a whole bunch of dashes, or periods or anything in your description that magically separate your description from what you're wearing.
STOP DOING IT!!

I wrote a paper on this topic for an English class in college. The class was all about new media.
Sadly, it was destroyed in the great crash of 2005, but I assure you it was awesome. I did have fun being the token 'Person who actually plays those crazy Internet games' in the class, though.

Nope, I won't stop doing that. (I just started doing it today, and it nearly coincided with Ardmore and Felicia being in the same place in Glomdoring, so I bet you saw it in my description.)
I dislike having ten lines of clothing, jewelry and wearable container spam mashed onto the end of my character description. Run-on paragraphs are hard to read, which is why forum users Internet-wide chastise each other for neglecting to use line breaks. If I don't like to read my own description (and I don't, for that reason), I'm betting most other people don't, either. Even the Master Ravenwood Tree description and item mash-up is easier to read, in my opinion, due to color coding.
I like that suggestion in the Simple Ideas thread of placing a single blank line in between character descriptions and clothing lists (so did a bunch of other people), but as with 99.9% of Simple Ideas, it will likely never be implemented in any form.
So, my tweet is: "Stop mashing character, clothing, jewelry and wearable container descriptions into one TL;DR spamfest."

For people who play MUDs, why is everyone too lazy to read? It's not like by separating it all out you magically create less text.

It increases readability. More white space = easier to read. It is one of the most basic principles in technical writing.

It's not about being lazy, it's about organization. At least, it is to me! I dislike everything being muddled together; my brain desires the separate ideas to be, well separate. Think of it as wall of text vs. blocks of text. The blocks are much more agreeable.
Ayisdra2010-05-05 23:57:49
but it partly breaks RP too...when you look at someone, you don't see these dashes....if you really must make it easier, you could always colour code it...
Also there is a thing as too much line breaks and and white space (look at the histories ...I hate the fact each paragraph has a line break after it.)
