That's certainly how it was pre-epic-quest but I don't want to risk it having changed like so much else did. Besides there's the part where if you don't do it someone else probably will grab something you need.
Anyway, it all worked itself out. Plus got some very friendly and helpful follow-up from one of the coders who's working on ways to stop it happening in future.

The antlers bit wasn't changed - not to say urgency shouldn't be applied!

I swear, it is impossible to raise village feelings through commodity quests.
I was trying, but I get the feeling it takes a dedicated effort on the part of an entire org to get it to change. I'm not patient enough to do that.
Xavius2010-05-07 20:50:38
Religious influence doesn't seem much better. No budge from neutral after more than twenty full village influences.
Would an admin be kind enough to tell us if the effectiveness of the quest/influence itself is dependent on whether or not org politics are benign/despotic, or if it just adds a bonus/decay rate?

Government doesn't affect the effectiveness of influencing/questing, no. Despotic does, however, add a gradual decay (benign a gradual benefit) - neutral neither.
Yes, it takes a concerted effort over time to achieve a change - note how long villages are in possession. It shouldn't be possible to go from one level to the next in a couple of hours - otherwise everyone would be despotic and comfortably enjoying level 1 (max positive) feelings.
Edit: Just so you get an idea that I'm not arbitrarily changing stuff (or being stubborn about changing it). This is what I do every time I consider changing the value of influence etc. I view feelings as a resistance level, in the range of 1-7 (4 being neutral, 1 being loved, 7 being hated).
Mind, this is just some really quick math.
If you do 100 commodity quests in an hour, it would take 50 hours to get to 100% positive feelings from 0 (everyone goes to 0 when a village is influenced). Deport revolted on 3/25, and then again on 5/1. That's 35 days or so. If you do 1 round of commodity quests a day, you'll get to lvl 2 resistance, roughly 70% of the way to lvl 1 from 0%. Just doing undervault rockeaters, trout and a run of cows and sheep will net more than 100 commodity quests (Heck, there's about 40 trout, 25 or so cows, 13 sheep - do mountain rockeaters + trout/sheep/cows and you'll have right around 100).
So if one person per RL day does that, as a neutral commercial gov't, you'll be doing pretty well come village revolt time. While people complain there's no effect, I kind of feel like if it gets any 'easier', commercial gov't will have a huge advantage - they could sit as a neutral or despotic gov't, do 3 or 4 commodity runs a day, and be sitting pretty high on the feelings scale. Really, as I look at it and do some math, I actually think - with 3 or 4 dedicated people doing 1 solid run per day (this isn't even doing 'everything possible' - if they did that, double the values) - commercial governments are sitting as probably one of the best governments - high commodity production, moderately low power production, and huge potential for feelings.
Religious feelings are a bit different, but I kind of feel like commercial is right where it should be.
Rika2010-05-07 23:03:31
Commercial would be so much easier to do if tracking wasn't so bugged.
Lehki2010-05-07 23:45:12
Man unraveling gates is boring.
Thul2010-05-07 23:48:43
Weaving them is only slightly more exciting.

If you could rout lusternia twits to an actual twitter page that would be pretty sick!

Gosh, we were doing that many every weave for about three or four before we saw an effect. I have done more than thirty in Shanthmark myself, and I'm not the most active one by far.

I feel mildly belittled, because villagers just don't reset often enough for the numbers you're citing to be accurate, and it took a non-trivial amount of my time to do that. The inaccurate figure combined with a juxtaposition of another group's effort feels like one-upmanship.
I am happy to know that someone has seen it working, though! Much more happy than annoyed.

They reset once an hour, approximately. In a single RL day you can do more than twenty. I don't know what you mean about the inaccuracy, Serenwilde has been working on this for a couple of weeks though, so that's room for several hundred times at very least.
But I certainly didn't intend it as one-upmanship, or even bragging, nor to be belittling. I guess I am a little proud of how much a number of Serens have poured into this, and other things, lately, and to see results from it. We do get a lot of guff hereabouts because the stuff we do isn't so visible, so people just imagine we're not doing anything. But that wasn't behind the post. It was intended just as an encouragement to you that, if 20 times didn't do something visible, that doesn't mean it's broken, so stick with it, keep going, there are results out there to be had. And I had to back that up with evidence.
Sorry if it came off with a tone I didn't intend. Looking back I can see how it would have. My apologies.

It's hard to tell when the effect of a Benign ruling style is loading on heaps on positive feelings too.
Xavius2010-05-08 03:43:21
Oh, hey, when did you guys change?
Unknown2010-05-08 04:19:15
Before we got any villages. When Rhaell become CL.
Lehki2010-05-08 04:21:09
It bothers me so much when I'm looking at the map, and the ingame coordinates make some bizarre jump. Like going up towards Tosha off the main mountain path, and the z coordinate drop by four instead of going up.
But I'm just an OCD freak, so who cares.

Getting enemied because someone raged about dying in neutral territory after being asked to leave. Ahh love it.
That's for you buddy.

Fixed, but don't expect that often/in every case (1 z marker in one area is not the same as 1 z marker in another. Or even in the same area.)

We do. People just aren't very good about actually looking at it all the time.
