Actually, some rifts are important. They let novices get up to the higher planes without constantly having to ask for lifts. Older people, too. That's why Magnagora has them.
Yeah, not having Gate is a pain in the arse.

Sounds like you're just being spoiled about luxury items that are exactly that, a luxury. It's not like the admin will ever invent some great thing that takes you to all the important places of your org...oh wait
Without rifts half the city can't get to Fire, and from there to Cosmic. Which are two rather important places (One being current, the second one becoming more important sometimes soon). And not everyone has the time or drive to deal with the epic quest.
Felicia2010-06-05 23:14:20
Can't you use the Toborolla rift to get to Faethorn, and from there, on to the elemental planes?
I'm not sure if that's permanent or not, but I had occasion to use it once when I accidentally kicked a commune guard at the nexus and the skeletons became aggressive towards me.

You can, but have to remember it leads to Faethorn, which can be a warzone, and as for those in Gaudi, is on the other side of the Basin. Pretty much exact opposite side. For quickly getting to Fire/Vortex, it's useless.

My suggestion is to do what you can and join in on raids and defense anyway, I personally feel that the best time to learn combat would be when you aren't constantly being pressed to defend/die for The Cause, so you can learn in a manner most comfortable to you. Glomdoring doesn't lack for people who know what they're talking about, so I suggest asking 'hey how can I help' some time.
I disagree, I think people try harder when there's something at stake as well as when they see their efforts rewarded, even if it's just a 'Hey, I lasted much longer than usual against the glomzerg this time', it also gives people more oppertunities to see if what they're doing works against, y'know, the people they have to use it on, especially for things like group combat.
It's the reason I once suggested that Celest invite Glom to raid us for some fun-but-important group training seeing as it'd be hard to get such a thing happening in the arena (save for battle chess it caps at, what, five people a team?). Fell on deaf ears, though, oh well.

All fair points, but Toborolla is just a hair south of the Aetherplex, which takes well under a minute to get to if you know your city or commune. So distance shouldn't be a huge factor.

You could always go against them for real.
Sylphas2010-06-05 23:32:28
Regardless of distances and such, still not seeing how a rift is any less of a luxury than an orgbix.
Unknown2010-06-05 23:45:52
Wildnodes is good times for practice against Glom! We even almost lost to Celest last time!

If you aren't a Mage or Guardian, how are you supposed to get to Elemental or Cosmic? Can't transverse through the nexus.
Unknown2010-06-06 00:11:00
Happy thoughts and pixie dust.
Unknown2010-06-06 00:18:10
Better convince your city to build those constructs. Or perhaps supply people with cubixes.
Sarrasri2010-06-06 00:28:58
Gaudi and Halli only have access to one construct right now, and it's the free immolation/25% xp on aetherbubbles one, not the elemental/cosmic plane ones.

No, I meant he was trying to say that rifts are a luxury but orgbixes aren't, when it seems the exact oppposite to me. I think I said it wrong, though, reading over it.

I want an Orgbix, but Mag won't let me on the project to get one. I've been told just to do the quest, but I don't want to (potentially) get in trouble.

you're right they're all luxuries. Coincidentally tolborolla is actually right near the aetherplex, which every org has quick access too.
Shishi2010-06-06 02:19:21
What is an Orgbix?

True but it differs on a few things, plane powers, shrine powers, lay out, size, all that jazz.
And you won by FIFTEEN! Cannot convey how infuriating that was...
Unknown2010-06-06 02:20:42
If it's any consolation, it was a pretty epic comeback that happened literally in the last minute.

That is an awesome idea that I would totally support if you brought it up IG! That sounds fun. We should Idea something like this where it is like a freeforall and deaths won't count or something. Could be fun and good practice for both parties
