Hmm, how about any system ever that rewards intelligence or effort rather than sheer statistical or momentary superiority?
Plenty of games - most successful ones, really - have mechanics in place to reduce the impact of powergaming and reward casual players.

I'm going to steal and modify a quote from the old Batman cartoon that was used to drive the Riddler insane. "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?"
In this case, it is: "If you have put in so much effort, why aren't you a demigod?" or "If you're so smart, how come you can't see how to take advantage of what you have?" Not like Demigod is hard to get now, anyway.
I know Rika got level 3 runed weapons (about 3000 credits worth of runes, I think) without buying credits. She bashed for them. What was the competition anyway?

Disparity in level isn't really meaningful in WoW. Their level 80 (maximum) takes about as long as our level 80 to reach. Casual players (ie those that don't have the time to raid) can't get the best gear but if they stick to dailies and heroics long enough they'll still get pretty close... to say nothing of the fact that all players pay the same fee, no more and no less, and are on a level playing field. I'd pay $5 a month to play Lusternia if credits were abolished :P
Ahaha, I really hope that you don't think that way in real life. And sure, demi is relatively easy to get if your org has a fully artied aethership and they like you enough to bring you along. Or if you want to dump all your lessons into influence and therefore be useless once you actually hit 100 (credits nonwithstanding).

Gonna go ahead and spin this at you once more. Where's your Seal for Life or Nature? Where'd you place in today's influence contest? How's that the fault of you not being demigod?

Influence may not be as dependant on level or other factors, but they're certainly still there, as evidenced by me needing to beg a gnome five times for a gift while others get it after one beg and keep on going. Anyway, transing influence takes credits (or it takes ignoring all your other skills), so my point still stands just fine. I can't remember what the Life or Nature seal contests are.

Nature is a scavenger hunt and life is knowing curatives on someone else.

Demigods have an advantage in both! Demigods would have been around more to find places to hunt (unless you aetherhunted, which is cheating ) and demigods have had to bash more things that would have afflicted them so they know cures better!

Wow, spending time on the game gives you such an advantage, who would have thought?

If you put effort and money into things, you do better than people who do not. When I spent days working on my katas I did far better than people who simply asked others what they did for theirs. When Virgin Galactic spends billions working on a spaceship, I am sure it works better than my 100 dollar rocket to propel Dr. Fuzzies, the gerbil into space.

That may also be dependant on your ignorance of some factors. For example, were you at high prestige? That negatively influences begging (but positively influences all other influence types). What was your charisma? Yes, demigod gives a +2 to charisma. You didn't have trans influence (which I notice you're complaining about as well, despite there being trans-influence non demigods ... ) which gives charismaticaura for a big boost to influence. Did you have a pet to boost influence?
Guess how many of those demigod actually mechanically effects.
One.
Charisma.
This sounds more like complaining about other people being better at influencing/bashing/etc. than any real, reasonable (ha!) complaint about demigod.

This is the telling statement, right here.
Also, there are all sorts of aethercrews always hunting and looking for people, but again... they have to like you or failing that be able to put up with you.

Ok, but we're still comming down to the same thing, people that play more are given better opertunities, I see no problem in this, and it's obvious that that's how it SHOULD be, people RAGE over the fact that novices were given runes of dominion and whatnot and then they RAGE that demigods can bash and influence better, dear God grow up.

I just like the roleplaying, writing, politics and art aspects of the game. I know I suck at the combat system, but thats not the primary reason I am here, so its fine. I'll probably never grind to a level over 60, but i'll still have fun.

I really strongly suggest grinding to 80. Not having to worry about collapsing from hunger/exhaustion is exceedingly convenient.

You may use me as an example next time.
Also, demigod gives you no benefit whatsoever in the Beauty seal.
I could be an elder god and still not have a shot at a Seal. For the actual ascending part, it's all about how many big friends you have, anyway...

One thing that is usually overlooked when people complain about needing credits is that they can be earned through in-game gold (credit market) AND the Bardics and Artisanals. Among the IRE games, Lusternia's the most generous when it comes to these -monthly- contests. The Bardics and Artisanals rewards get better in the long run, since there are credit rewards for every four 'palettes' you earn.
As for the credit market, if you don't want to spend real cash on credits, then you've got to put up with the prices people who -do- buy credits with cash. The price is their prerogative - if you don't like how much they sell them for, then you can wait until the prices drop down. What are you to do while waiting? Earn gold. How? Bash. Influence. Lessons are relatively easy to earn at the early levels and the basic bashing skills are usually learned with not too many lessons. If you want to earn gold without needing lessons - do quests, gather wandering denizens, etc. - rinse and repeat.
It all boils down to you being willing to actually -work- for what you want. If you dislike exerting effort, then you've got a problem.
