I'm not sure who is on the aetherspace committee but one way around that might be to make the shield module greatly cut down on the speed penalty for larger ships, like it steamlines the ship to cut down on drag, or has some kind of inertial dampening.
That way it won't hurt aetherhunting and the speed penalty can be easity put back into play for pvp

I wish there wasn't a penalty for having a larger manse. It makes it difficult to decide if you want to expand your manse, or stick with your 1 room speed ship. I've stuck with my 1 room ship for a long time, another reason being that expanding my manse and adding aethership stuff to it would be kind of useless, since it would be rare for me to find a crew to use those things. I'm much better off having my 1 room ship that I can fly solo to get to places.

Also: I think a new aetherbubble called "Vulcan" should be added. smile.gif

Why not keep your one room ship and then have a completely separate manse you expand as much as you want?

Because I'm not made of money. tongue.gif

Also, as pointed out, you would need three ships. One for personal travel, a big ship for PvP, and a light cruiser for PvE.

You make sound reeeeally complicated. sad.gif I want to try Aetherspace travelling, but I play on Nexus most of the time.

When I get a turret (my next purchase) you can crew out with me!

I am hoping a light cruiser (about 6 rooms?) will be fast enough for personal travel. Don't know yet!

In addition to what other people said about using things like GLIDE or triggering on a different thing, you might want to bug this. Maybe they didn't intend not seeing the map to also make you not see the prompt.

I bugged the prompt change not being optional right away. I couldn't wait for that to maybe have an effect though, so I hacked at my system as well.

Does gliding get you from point A to point B faster than individual steers, or is it just a convenience of needing fewer commands? Assuming the individual steers are being sent as fast as possible, i.e. by a system.

Well a hunting ship would need a command chair, a grid, three turrets at least one aetherhold, and probably a power siphon. So you could do it with a 6 or 7 room ship. It would be about 250 credits worth of gold though.

With the disbanding of the Star Aviators, just about all of Celest's public fleet is out of commish. Here's to Ilyarin reinstating them so at least people can use our half a dozen or so ships.

manse + egg: 600,000 gold
room + grid: 300,000 gold
room + turret: 275,000 gold X 3 = 825,000 gold
room + hold: 175,000 gold
room + collector: 225,000 gold
--------------------------------------
total: 2,125,000 gold
at 6000 gold/credit: 355 credits

Yowza! Will take me a while but I'll do it.

When you have 50 moves to do, even the small latency of a high-speed DSL connection on a speedy computer will add up, so GLIDE will always come out faster.

That's helpful, thanks.

Hmm. Could make it so that you could adjust how much of your ship's size is used in determining health and speed. For example, if you have a 25-room ship you can pick anywhere from 1-25 rooms worth of hull strength/slowness. Dunno how you'd explain it in-game, but that's usually the easy part.
Razenth2009-07-09 05:48:57
Gliding also saves your finger a helluva lot of stress, it does.

Man, am I ticked. The aethership changes in the ANNOUNCE have completely disabled my ability to sail. I have to do some serious work on my system before I'm going to be able to leave the Facility and sail back to prime.

Ya...as everyone else was saying you're making a big deal out of nothing. It's like a 5 second change depending on how fast you can delete/add

Actually, the SA is my responsibility now. I'm still changing it to fit the new needs that will come from the Aetherspace changes. I just hope that among the changes, there'll be a way for me to find out who keeps dropping the Lady of Light at bubbles and don't return her. pissed.gif

If you could deed artifacts to an org, you could get Celest to buy a whistle, and you'd never have to worry about people leaving it places.

Not me, but I DO find it tempting to do something similar when I wander around manses and stumble on a ship owned by an enemy who hasn't set permissions on it tongue.gif

Would have to get/borrow a whistle to summon a ride home, though :/
Razenth2009-07-10 23:41:01
Half the people who own our ships are inactive sadly enough. Heck, maybe more than half.

.... I'm actually not sure how that statement relates to the conversation at hand. Carry on people.
