You missed out on Eventru's point, however.
Once the ship is built, it is built. There is no running cost aside from power, and all organizations have at least one already-built ship with all the modules that the citizenry can use... for no cost at all.

Have you recouped the cost of your bottomless health vial yet?

Unless 50% can somehow jack the money up by, say, 600%, then it's not going to make much of a differance, the money will still be crap compared to the time and investment you put into it.
More importantly though, if I can never find a 100% combateer (which I can't), it makes no differance what I can make with them, because I don't have them. We went out with Asmoth in his three turret ship, actually got less tons in the same time, though the targetting was incredibly bugged...

At 100% combateer I was getting world-shattering-crits. That is 32x the damage of a single shot. Also, the miss rate is much lower with higher combateer. Further, you balance based on potential, and combateer is slower to raise than the other two (hence my asking for proficiency over and over, I suspected yours hadn't gotten it up yet). One more person, a huge amount of better crits, and fewer misses... you should be seeing a major difference.
You cannot discuss rate of income without testing out the best possible scenario-- full ship, 100% in proficiencies, all knowing how to use their abilities.

I'm actually guessing I have, yeah.
Further, I have never died due to running out of health!

I read in the changes that once your prof hits 50, it can't go down. It also said that if you had aethercraft previously, your profs all started out at 50. Buttttttt, my piloting prof has dropped below 50. has that happened to anyone? I was a speced Empath before the change.

Tip: BUG it.
Lawliet2009-07-29 00:32:43
I've already bugged that.
And as for not being able to judge on income unless you check out the best case scenario, I don't think that's true, when I'm judging how long it will take me to make some money by hunting I don't think, "If I become like Vathael, a demigod mega artifacted up hunting GOD, I could possibly make this gold in five freaking minutes.", it makes no sense to, I judge how things are by how things are for ME, with my assets.
Though if you'd like to come2celest and be a combateer for me, I wouldn't mind

And yet, at the same time, the amount of income is not based on how you hunt. It, just as for experience-gathering, is based on best-case scenarios. You may experience less, but it is nowhere near the potential, nor should it be used for discussions stating whether or not it is too much / too little.
Edit: Also, I am not saying it is just fine as-is! Roark is still doing exp-tweaking, and things will change. I am just trying to encourage the player-side of it to do a bit more investigation instead of throwing their hands up in the air and proclaiming that it is "way too little" without actually... fully exploring it.

Sorry, I must be mistaken here, isn't the object of a game for it to be an enjoyable experiance for the majority of people? The majority of people will not have access to your best case scenario, so it shouldn't factor in, you don't make a product based on the assumption that it should be fine for people at the end of the bell curve, do you?
Edit: As for your note on critical hits, I wouldn't know, I don't use a turret, but they were mentioning about getting a few nice critical hits in.

You balance based on full potential, not on half-hearted effort. Hunting is the exact same way... you get the most out of it with more skills, more health/levels, etc. However, with aethercraft, you need one skillset only. You just have to use it a bit to practice it up.
So... practice it up before proclaiming it is not good enough.

We were hunting tendrils, got something like 3500 essence from each tendril, but took a bit for each one. It was definitely rough. We didn't really check out the Prime things after the major essence overhaul, because we were trying out the high-end (you know, just as I'm suggesting you do).
Come up with your own numbers, present your case, but do it correctly. That is all I ask of you, and I do not think it is too much.

But in the end it is the exact same thing. If you put in the time and effort to get real data, you'll have both gold and experience information to show. Then you can actually present that data to Roark as a "Hey, this is off" or a "Hey, this is fine". This thing where you half-heartedly try and then proclaim that it is not enough is NOT valid testing and not a valid reason to change things.
Put up real numbers. Present your case fully. This argument of yours doesn't hold water mostly because it is incomplete. All I ask is that you put in the time to complete it if you wish to argue that it is not enough. It very well may not be! Your numbers just don't prove that as-is, though.

Why, exactly, would I do that, when you've already done it? Answer the question, how much gold could you make, per person. per hour?

Tell me where I said I already did that? I was doing bug testing, killing some of the bigger beasts to get experience amounts as Roark tweaked them, and he told us he was going to be continuing to tweak. We didn't really spend a lot of time looking at the gold because, well, it hasn't changed. It's been the same it has been (may or may not be good, who knows?).
What has changed is that there is a larger supply of potential crewmembers who can get decent proficiencies. So! Use that to your advantage and get real data, if you want to claim that it's not enough.
You don't balance based on incomplete data. You just don't.

Fine, but your closer, and I wasn't hunting before the tweaks, so I really don't know what you're expected to get with a high level crew like your own, so PLEASE answer the question, if only for my own curiosity.

I did answer your question... with a question of my own as well. Where did I say I checked gold data? All I did was tell you that your data is faulty, why, and how to get more complete data which you can use to actually get changes if they are needed.
Lawliet2009-07-29 01:05:50
You don't need to have CHECKED any gold data, just know how much you were given and know roughly how long you were out there, why is this such a difficult question for you?
I'm accepting that fine, if I can start getting decent crews together, or better yet train the current people that are willing to come, I could get more gold, move on.

Because I was not given any gold, as we were not looking for gold data? Why is this such a difficult answer for you? It was in the very first response. :/

Either I have failed at reading (it's 2am, I AM a little tired and grouchy, can you tell?) or you didn't mention not getting gold in your initial answers. Why would you go out and not get gold? T.T
