This is so completely not true. If the communes would have worked something out with Celest none of this would have happened. You chose to play hardball and while it worked out amazingly well for you at the start, it seems like it was not the best path for you to have chosen in the long run.

I wouldn't say -none- of it would have happened. I'm sure the Demon Lords are crafty enough to make their plots happen.

Example: The Forestals arrive on Celestia to remove the binding, but suddenly... what's this? A portal to Nil!? How... who...???? Nifelhima, the Queen of Insufferable Cruelty, steps through the portal opened by Celestian Backstabber Closet Mag, and, hacking off the shackle about Raziela's wrist, drags the shard of greenery off to the screaming demonic plane.

some time later....

A reality-sundering shriek is heard as the Megalith of Doom starts spewing tremendous quantities of soot into the air. The Tree of Maeve is suddenly surrounded by whirling clouds of smoke, acompanied by the acrid stench of the Taint.

Insert everything else that actually happened.

But... but... you could have made a difference by positively and constructively affecting the life of at least one person! cry.gif

You could have also... killed Nifilhema. Killed people to steal their essence (you tried). Killed people trying to influence fae to steal them. (you tried). Spent time on Xion/Water taking that essence (you tried). Guarded Maeve so we couldn't kill her and take her (you didn't).

Are you really serious?

I actually read the rest of thread. You know, the posts where none of the Commune-folk were informed or told that there was anything going on with Maeve at all, and it just seemed like "Situation as usual, she's dead, and despite it apparently being real bad that she's dead it doesn't actually affect anything except melding". (Also, she's relatively easy to kill... so, yeah, the whole "she's important" thing doesn't really fly any more, even IC, ever since she was made killable).

Actually, both Communes were willing to work with Celest. Both had agreed to terms with Soll, though there was more discussion happening. He disappeared from the meeting (walked out with some vague excuse of not wanting to be there too long) and then just never responded further.

Celest had no real interest in doing it the Commune way, at all. They ditched out on it the first time, abandoning talks with Glom to make treaties with Magnagora. They did it again this time. Sure, it was player-driven (though I'm not sure if Celest's pantheon had some part in Soll dropping talks or not, it is strange that he would just ignore that avenue). Really, though, given his choices: It was going to happen, period. The only question was that of time.

Wrong (period)
There was a way that this could have played out peacefully. Eventru even said as much. That way didn't happen. Whether or not you think things were tilted to this outcome doesn't change the fact that there was in fact an alternative.

Hate is the verb
That to me is superb
And love just a drug
On the mart
For any kiddie from school
Can love like a fool
But hating, my boy
Is an art

It can only happen that way if there is interest. There was not, from Celest's end.

Raziela probably would have been unbound a week or so ago if not for Soll's "shirking". Glomdoring and Serenwilde had already agreed to it.

We tried, and we -did-!

In fact, we -were- about to begin talks on repealing the tradeban...

Then, apparently out of nowhere (for me, at least, until I had the story told to me), Celest teams up with Magnagora, backstabbing us and Tainting Faethorn... We would have had interest- we have Vitae!

But nooooo....

It wasn't actually out of nowhere. Celest was dragging its heels, Soll was refusing to talk despite there being agreement to remove the bond, so there was an attempt to do the hai'Gloh to prod him to move. Then Serenwilde decided to back out when it was half-done, leaving the Rite to fail... and causing the current scenario.

Eh, to be fair, I and a few others realized it was happening, and Lhiannan did chime in after 15 minutes of her being dead with, "Oh noes, Maeve!". But I guess glom's population of alts is not a thing of the past..we had about 15 people on for most of the day, only 7-8 really willing to fight, and it was pretty much non-stop fighting. When it went quiet for the first time after literally hours, people went to have a breather/eat lunch/walk their dogs/continue bashing for essence because 5 avatars were still down at that point. But hey, yeah, absolutely. Every chance to stop them, I agree.

And Shaddus? Please keep it up. Your modest and insightful commentary makes these forums worth reading.

Actually, I had continued talks with Talan after that meeting at Maeve. Talan had told me she would respond before the deadline (when the hai'Gloh and Xion Initiative were theoretically possible again) and I did not hear back. A day or two passed and then I heard of the attempt on the Demon Lords and Supernals. The decision was made that the communes were not taking us seriously, or so no reason to rush through unbinding Raziela, so we acted.

Lol. the night before, Viynain/Everiine/Kielo attacked Nil for another round of the rite. Don't let your leaders lie to you, they weren't going out of their way to work with Celest.
Saran2009-07-30 22:57:53
So celest would have had access to loremaster potions and had the binding lifted... but instead they decided to buddy up with the taint...

buh...

Seriously the push for cities verses communes causes entertaining situations.

It was (and still is) IMC-only... I hadn't talked to Celest yet because Everiine, Aramel, and Gregori hadn't posted their comments about it. Ask any one of them about CLHELP IDEAS, though, and they'll assure you that it's there, it has the comments of the Khan and the Keyll Arrane, and a note that the situation has changed.

If anything, being told that "You have to wait, we have currently conquered Faethorn, the realm you need to visit, and now the communes are trying to regain ground. If you wish to aid us in thwarting them dastardly villains, join up. Otherwise, you may want to help us in gathering scholars to ensure the Megalith stays fully powered in this war." should help convince players that the game is dynamic and worth their time.

This. Exciting. Engaging.
