Easymode doesn't help anything...
Unknown2009-09-04 06:07:21
lots of people play easymode and isnt as bad as all the "pr000zz" make it out to be. the only real differences between easymode and regular are A: the games are on average much shorter B: less emphasis on laning C: towers are weaker D: agility heroes/farmers are generally alot stronger (lol zephyr<3) transitioning back and forth between the two modes isnt very hard once you get some experience.
Unknown2009-09-04 06:11:26
Hell, I've played EM games with S2 guys several times
Shiri2009-09-04 06:13:56
I do play it simply because most of the games with people around my level do for whatever reason, and it isn't like it's awful, but it's also not really any easier than otherwise (which would be kind of hard considering it's a multiplayer game...) I will concede the jungling emphasis but if anything getting outlaned in easymode means they farm up the good items even faster. If you're getting 3 lasthits/denies to every 4 of theirs it seems like they're getting 8*quantity of gold to your 6 by the time the laning phase ends, so the gap between the items of you and that damn farmed arachna grows comparatively faster. Skipping lane to gank also has a bigger opportunity cost.
That's just my low-mid level experience though.

Should play a noob like me sometime
Dota is still better, though.

A: No, they aren't. They just take less time to get to the late game. EM actually lasts about the same time as normal mode
B: Laning well will still give you an advantage, it's just that getting ganked has less of an effect
C: Towers being weaker removes a great deal of strategy from the game
D: Yes, but why would you want farmers to be stronger when you could be playing more interesting heroes?
In conclusion: don't play EM.
Shiri: I'll play a game with you later if I see you, or alternatively you can always post what you're having trouble with and I can give you tips! Lasthitting is... not very hard, but maybe I just think that because I'm used to it. However, if you're just bad at lasthitting, you can play ganker heroes instead. People like Thunderbringer, Hellbringer, Pyromancer, Glacius, Slither, and Andromeda (just to name a few - there are many more) require little to no farm to be effective.
Unknown2009-09-04 13:56:53
I don't think he's talking about not being able to lasthit (since he does so well enough when I play with him), just that he doesn't like the mechanic in general. And he does well enough with Thunderbringer to get a 1:1 KD anyway.
Anyway, we should set up some Lusternian games sometime.. or when the server finally decides to come back up.

I got a paper due today and am sucking at it (this Rosenthal dude is unbelievable, contradicting himself all over the place) so I don't have much time and shouldn't even be here, but maybe I'll ping you another day.
Last hitting is not hard in and of itself - if you're pushing a lane solo and want some gold you just got to be a little patient and know your character's animation accurately. The problem is that it's REALLY hard when you're up against people who can deny properly, and becomes an exercise in frustration.
I do tend to go thunderbringer a lot because he's hilarious and easy, although I then end up going like 15-4 with a bunch of gold due to stealing the sidelaner's whiffed kills early with wrath early and then opening with wrath and static/bolting everyone to death later...on at least two occasions I've jammed his ult while trying to type and gotten kills out of it by accident.
I also like slither for similar reasons. I suck at glacius for some reason. I have yet to try andromeda because Silferras keeps making me do SDs since she was added, maybe I will do that later hmmm.
EDIT: Add me as Shiri, predictably
Desitrus2009-09-04 14:34:21
Glacius still isn't right as far as ultimate grid, I feel. He's also very early-game friendly and doesn't scale that well at all. Almost anything he does is negated by 30 minutes, and his disable isn't even a stun/silence, just a root. He provides mana regen which by the half-way point, isn't even an issue for anyone. Friend me on SintorTeach, my second account.
Shamarah2009-09-04 15:00:37
It's not like his ultimate is very good anyway. He's basically a walking mana regen. You underrate imprison, though, it's great for setting up lane combos.

Early game shenanigans sure. The fact that you can cast through it makes it kind of balls late game, when people will have items for dispelling/removing/etc. The ult does a lot of damage when it makes contact several times, it's just that the grid with their animation is so piss poor that it doesn't connect when people are rooted in the middle of it.

@Sham
A: Incorrect B: You're not disputing, just stating another fact C: If by strategy you mean no tower diving D: I wouldnt? I'm just saying they are. <3
In conclusion, play whatever gametype you feel like.
Glacius is an ice-cold pimp and synergizes so well with TB and Behemoth. All he needs is a portal key, emarchers/haste and he's good to go like the sexy man he is.

Well, obviously. He's a pretty situational pick, you only want him if you have a team of early-focused spammers like Pyro, Succubus, Thunderbringer, etc who can abuse that +3 mana to the max.

Usually if the other team is light we'll run him with swiftblade. Can often create a fed carry in the first 11 minutes via root/whirl.
