...somebody obviously did not understand the origins of the Illithoid.
Maybe started off as a viscanti, race changed, forgot to fix it?
Noola2010-07-11 18:12:04
Maybe they were elfen and were told to reincarnate (like if they were in Magnagora), and did so, but they thought the traits of the old race carried over into reincarnation. Or were so determined to be elfen that they decided to try that even though they had to reincarnate.

Actually, the idea behind it was that the illithoid don't have souls, correct? They have an Inner Worm which is a part of Illith, right? So what happens if an Inner Worm ends up inside a different body?

It would be rejected.
It's all part of a whole; when an Illithoid dies and prays, they get back their body, not some random other person's body (especially not that random other person's body repeatedly).

And yet the Portal of Fate can obviously make mistakes. That is the idea behind reincarnation, isn't? "Oops, I forgot I was actually a different race." So what happens if the Portal links an Inner Worm to a different body either on accident or on purpose?

No, you tell it what race you are (it asks). And what your name is, what your age is, etc.
If you tell it something else it can make you that something else, but it won't magically stuff an Illithoid worm in a Faeling body, for example.

Ok. So, what if an Elfen wanted an Inner Worm stuffed into her? Or an Illithoid wanted the body of an Elfen and didn't magically want a soul?
There are lots of ways it could happen, especially given the fact that the Portal of Fate is totally misunderstood.
That, and I don't see who I'm hurting by being a bit different?

The inner worm will eat that elfen from the inside out. Have you tried killing one of the illithoid in the Prison? Those worms come out and they come out mean (they attack anyone and anything, enemy or not).
And if an Illithoid wanted the body of an Elfen... well, they'd still be an Illithoid in an Illithoid body wanting to be an Elfen.
Unless they decided that they were an Elfen and reincarnated.

Because.... Inner Worms are part of an illithoid. It's not like having a Lobo tail, or pointed elven ears. Besides, where would it go in the elfen? Are you going to donate part of your intestines for it to have a hole to live in?

And what happens to the Soul, or lackthereof? If the Fates can just make or break souls willynilly, then what's so scary about the Soulless or the Taint in the first place?
And saying that because mobs of a certain denizen are one way that the entire species is that same way is silly.
But I'm not looking to argue. I just saw people making fun of me so I thought I would explain. Whether you agree or not, I don't suppose it matters. The Portal of Fate is mysterious, and it can do whatever it wants, apparently.
If you say it can make or break a soul, then I say it can put an Inner Worm in an Elfen body and make it stick.

Women donate parts of their body all the time for things to live in.

Where are you getting that the Portal "makes or break souls"? I'm not seeing where I said that. And, in fact, I posit that the Illithoid's soul exists and is just part of the worm, by the simple fact that if you reincarnate to or from an Illithoid it is still the same soul (you, the player) behind the scenes. The Fates don't change that. You grow a worm when you go to Illithoid and lose it when you change to something else. Even if you are a changeling with a cameo.
An illithoid worm taking over an Elfen body just makes no sense. That's not how it works.

Prove it? I don't understand why you're arguing about it. Does it hurt you that I'm doing this? Does it hurt anyone? It isn't like I made my illithoid some gorgeous specimen to ravage all the little boys with, did I?
If anything, perhaps an Illithoid mated with a Human who had a lot of Elfen heritage. Does that make you happy? Its been said by a Divine that an Illithoid can grow hair if they have Human heritage. So then obvious an Inner Worm can exist outside of a body that is 100% Illithoid.
Why do you have to tell me I'm RPing wrong in a world full of magic and people made out of crystal? I don't understand why you have to be right.
