When you make new characters, how do you go about picking their names?

Syntax: NAMEGEN

I usually think about what I want my charachter's defining personality trait to be, and then I come up with some wierd mixture of languages and words to define that charachter. (that is, if I'm not just choosing daganev)

I got the name daganev by combining the word "ganef" and "da", ganef means "theif" in hebrew and da means "the" in text talk.

Usually I either pick a nice sounding word in a dead or obscure language (for instance "Syridean" is actually a shortened form of a longer name, "Syridean Fyrinne" which loosely translates from two different languages as "seeker of the truth" or "seek the truth") or I just throw a group of letters together looking for something that sounds nice. (For some reason this tends to include y and t more often than not, in the case of "Tyrni", "Tyma", and a few others.)

I made my name from scratch. I wanted a name with a powerful, strong beginning and a soft ending, to represent Kira's go-getter exterior and her gentler attitude to those she knows.

I usually do random letters instead of random generators which generally don't work so well ,no offense to those who worked on implementing ours. I guess i'm a picky person and want's to put things where I see it fit I suppose. Once my friend took a word let's say liquor and reversed it's spelling completely and it came out as Lycorr.

I try to think of something that roles off the tongue. If it's too hard to pronounce (yes, I'm looking at you, Kialkarkea tongue.gif ) I myself will just get frustrated.

Apparently names that end in 'A' are feminine to most people >.> so don't do such if you are going to play a male character or you will be like Ayisdra and everyone thinking you are a girl when you are not (despite being told other wise).

Now you feel my pain. My name doesn't even end in an A sad.gif.

Can't guarantee it'll be pronounceable but it usually produces some nice names.
